A report dated October 7, 2026 says Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition have ESRB ratings associated with PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. That report has not been independently confirmed by the accessible ESRB listings, and a rating does not confirm a release, upgrade, or launch date.
What the PS5 and Xbox Series ratings report says
A Reddit post published October 7, 2026 links to ESRB records it identifies as ratings for Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series. The post is a report, not an official announcement from 2K or confirmation that either game is coming to those consoles: the Reddit post.

The accessible ESRB pages currently show older platform lists. The ESRB record for Mafia II: Definitive Edition lists Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. The ESRB record for Mafia III: Definitive Edition lists Macintosh, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. Those pages do not establish a PS5 or Xbox Series release.
Does this confirm PS5 or Xbox Series upgrades?
No. An ESRB rating, even if a new record is confirmed, is not itself a release announcement or an upgrade policy. The available evidence does not confirm when—or whether—2K will release native PS5 or Xbox Series versions of Mafia II or Mafia III, whether owners will receive free upgrades, or whether any new versions will include performance changes.

Do not confuse the report with the confirmed next-generation release of Mafia: Definitive Edition, the first game in the series. 2K says that title arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 14, 2026, with 60 FPS and technical improvements. Its announcement and upgrade details apply to the first game, not Mafia II or Mafia III: 2K’s support article and the PlayStation listing.
How to play Mafia II and Mafia III on current consoles now
PlayStation
Mafia II: Definitive Edition is listed as a PS4 game and can be played on PS5 through backward compatibility. PlayStation warns that some PS4 features may be unavailable on PS5, or may behave differently; this compatibility is not a native PS5 version. Check the current PlayStation product page for the listing and compatibility details. The cited listing does not establish a PS5 upgrade for Mafia III.
