As reported by WIRED on October 6, 2026, Amazon listed the 13-inch MacBook Air with an M5 chip, 16GB of unified memory, and a 512GB SSD for $1,099—$200 below its stated $1,299 starting price. That is a strong discount against the post-increase price, but it is not the lowest price reported in the laptop’s recent history. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days run October 6–7, 2026, and the listing price may change; check the live offer before buying.
What the Prime Day deal includes
The offer reported by WIRED is for the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB memory and 512GB storage. WIRED listed it at Amazon for $1,099 on October 6, 2026, compared with a stated starting price of $1,299—a $200 reduction. Macworld also listed the same configuration at $1,099 during October Prime Day, corroborating the reported price.
WIRED listed the same configuration at $1,254 at Walmart and $1,299 at Apple on October 6. Those are dated price snapshots, not guarantees that each retailer still has the same price or stock.
Is this really the lowest price since June?
That wording reflects WIRED Product Writer and Reviewer Luke Larsen’s observation, not a comprehensive price-history record. Larsen wrote, “This is the best price I’ve seen on the MacBook Air since the beginning of the summer, when Apple introduced its $200 price increase.” The distinction matters: “best price I’ve seen” describes his experience, not proof that no lower offer existed anywhere.

WIRED also reported that the M5 Air frequently sold for below $1,000 during the first half of 2026 and recalled a $749 price during Prime Day 2025. So $1,099 is compelling relative to the $1,299 starting price cited in the October report, but it is higher than those earlier sale prices. It should not be described as an all-time low.
How the other MacBook offers compare
WIRED reported that higher-configured M5 Air models, including the 15-inch version, also had $200 off. Its report does not give exact prices for every configuration, so compare the live price of the specific screen size, memory, and storage you want rather than assuming every model costs the same.

In the same October 6 report, WIRED said the MacBook Neo’s $10 reduction had been in place for months and did not recommend older M4 Airs over the latest model based on the discounts then available. Those are WIRED’s time-specific comparisons, not a performance test or a guarantee that the same offers remain available.
What to check before you buy
- Open Amazon’s live listing and confirm it is the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB memory and 512GB SSD. Similar-looking listings can have different configurations.
- Check the current price, seller, and availability on the product page. The $1,099 figure is WIRED’s October 6 report, not a guaranteed checkout price.
- If Amazon shows price history for the eligible product page, review it to put the current offer in context. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days are scheduled for October 6–7, 2026, but the event dates do not guarantee a particular price through the final day.
- Compare the 13-inch and 15-inch models, or higher memory and storage options, only if their screen size or capacity better fits your needs; WIRED reported the same $200 discount on higher M5 Air configurations but did not list every variant’s price.
