How to weigh the Air and Pro configurations
Consider the Air for the lower historical entry price
The $849 listing was for the 13-inch Air with 16GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. HotHardware described that storage as non-replaceable and identified the 256GB capacity as a limitation. If evaluating a similar configuration, consider whether that capacity suits your files and applications; the article also listed a 13.6-inch Air with 24GB of memory and 512GB SSD for $1,249, and a 15-inch Air with 16GB and 256GB SSD for $1,049.
HotHardware’s 2025 article described the base Air as having an M4 with a 10-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, plus Touch ID, a 12MP Center Stage camera, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe 3, and up to 18 hours of battery life. Those are specifications as reported in that article, not independently verified current specifications here.
Compare the Pro by its listed configuration and budget
The three Pro offers HotHardware listed ranged from the M4 configuration at $1,599 to the M4 Pro at $2,149 and the M4 Max at $2,879. They differ in chip, memory, and storage configuration as shown above, as well as historical price. The article did not provide controlled benchmarks or an independent performance comparison, so these figures alone do not establish which model is faster for a particular workload or the better value today.

Are these discounts available now?
HotHardware’s report is dated June 14, 2025, and framed the deals around back-to-school shopping. It does not establish current retailer pricing, stock, or offer terms. Check the live retailer listing for the exact model and configuration before relying on a price or buying; a discount reported in 2025 should not be treated as an active promotion in October 2026.
HotHardware also attributed this wording to Apple: the M4 Max delivers “outrageous performance in a powerhouse laptop built for Apple Intelligence.” The article does not name an individual speaker, and that promotional description is not an independent test result.
