A Lynn man, Derrick J. Poe, was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to an October 2, 2026 report by MSONEWSports, which republished an announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The report says Poe pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition; it describes crack-cocaine sales as part of the investigation, not as the offense to which he pleaded guilty in this case.
What happened in the case
The report says U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy sentenced Poe in federal court in Boston on October 1, 2026. Poe, 41, of Lynn, had pleaded guilty in April 2026 to one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. He had been charged by criminal complaint in February 2026.
The distinction matters: although the headline shorthand refers to selling drugs, the reported guilty plea was for the firearm-and-ammunition offense. The account does not say Poe pleaded guilty to a drug-distribution count in this case.

Three controlled purchases in Salem

- A Springfield Armory 9mm pistol reported stolen from Columbus, Ohio.
Why the firearm possession was prohibited
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announcement, as recounted by MSONEWSports, said Poe’s prior felony convictions prohibited him from possessing firearms and ammunition. The report lists Alabama convictions from 2006 and 2012 and a 2016 Massachusetts conviction for possessing Class B drugs with intent to distribute. The underlying conviction records were not independently reviewed for this account.
