Lyckeby has started construction of a new tank facility to increase its capacity for modified potato starch, and the company expects it to begin operating in 2028. Lyckeby calls the project one of the largest investments in its history, but its announcement does not give the added capacity in tonnes, the investment amount, or the tank specifications.
What Lyckeby announced
Lyckeby marked the groundbreaking in a company update on LinkedIn. The post opens with the phrase “An investment in future growth” and states that the company “marked the start of construction of a new tank facility that will increase our capacity for modified potato starch.” Lyckeby describes the project as a key part of its long-term growth strategy and gives commissioning as 2028. That date is a company schedule target, not a result that has been reached.
The update names the people who attended the groundbreaking: Hans Holmstedt, Group CEO; Nicklas Göransson, Chairman of the Board; and representatives of CONSYD AB. The post does not explain CONSYD’s role in the project, so it should not be read as the contractor or equipment supplier. The quoted sentences are company wording; the post does not attribute them to any individual.

The announcement leaves several basic project details out. The table below separates what Lyckeby has stated from what it has not.

Any figure for capacity, cost, or tank size that appears in other coverage would need a primary source from Lyckeby to be confirmed. The company’s earlier storage project, described below, should not be used to fill these gaps.
Lyckeby and its product range
Lyckeby describes itself as a producer of potato-based specialty starches and fibers for food and paper manufacturers worldwide. Its product page lists four main groups: modified starch, clean-label starch, potato fiber, and native potato starch. According to the company, these products are developed and manufactured in Sweden, mainly from potato raw material grown by its owners.

Modified potato starch is the category the new tank facility is meant to expand. Lyckeby’s own product descriptions of the category are general, so the announcement does not say which customer applications the added volume will serve.

For food producers, Lyckeby says functional starches can improve texture and viscosity. They can also replace ingredients such as fat, egg, or milk, which the company presents as a way to lower cost or reduce allergens.

Paper applications
For paper manufacturers, Lyckeby sells technical starch products under its Solam business brand. The company says it supports these customers with technical advice and process optimization through application specialists.
Clean-label and native starches
Clean-label starch and native potato starch appear as separate lines in the company’s range. The company’s materials do not say whether the new tanks will hold any of these grades rather than modified starch.

Keeping the two Lyckeby projects apart
Lyckeby also reported a separate storage silo project in Nöbbelöv in a news item dated 7 November 2024. At that point the company said the silo was expected to be ready in May 2025 and that it would handle higher potato-starch production. The reviewed sources do not confirm whether that silo has been completed. The table compares the two projects.

About the company
Lyckeby’s company profile describes an economic association with around 500 members in southern Sweden, of whom around 350 are farmers. The profile says the company’s production is based mainly on potatoes. These are approximate membership figures as the company reports them.
