Lumio Aura 5 is a pair of powered stereo bookshelf speakers designed to offer a two-speaker alternative to a single soundbar. Built-in amplification and a wide selection of inputs simplify setup, but the system needs space for two cabinets—and Lumio’s performance figures are specifications, not independent test results. Whether it makes sense depends on your room, sources and preference for stereo placement.
Why choose bookshelf speakers over a soundbar?
A soundbar puts its speakers in one cabinet beneath or near the TV. Aura 5 separates the left and right channels into two cabinets, which can be placed apart to create a stereo image. That layout may appeal to listeners who want one system for TV and music, but it requires room for both speakers and a way to connect them.

Lumio’s stated design goal is to keep the speakers compact enough for placement beside a television or on a desk while balancing cabinet size and output. That is the company’s intent, not proof that Aura 5 sounds better than a soundbar. The cited launch coverage and interview-based analysis do not provide a controlled head-to-head test against a named soundbar or powered speaker.

- Placement: Plan for two cabinets and some separation between them; a soundbar takes up one main footprint.
- Setup: Aura 5 has built-in amplification, so the intended basic setup does not need a separate receiver or power amplifier.
- Sources: Its listed inputs cover common TV, computer, wireless and analog connections, though a turntable needs a built-in phono preamp.
- Performance evidence: Compare independent listening or measurements under comparable conditions. Wattage, maximum SPL and a bass-extension endpoint alone do not establish sound quality.
For context, Raghu Reddy, CEO of Circuit House Technologies, which runs Lumio, described the company’s position to The Times of India this way: “We wanted to bring back what soundbars and Bluetooth speakers gave up in the name of convenience: real fidelity.” That is Lumio’s rationale for the product, not an independent finding.

Does Lumio Aura 5 need an amplifier?
No separate power amplifier is required for the straightforward setup Lumio describes: Aura 5 is a powered speaker system with amplification built in. Lumio lists one 4.5-inch aluminium-diaphragm woofer and one 1-inch silk-dome tweeter in each high-density engineered-wood cabinet. The manufacturer includes a speaker cable to connect the pair.
Lumio also lists three sound modes—Studio, Cinema and Groove—and physical bass, treble and volume knobs. The stated in-box items are two speakers, a remote, power cord, HDMI cable, speaker cable and two AAA batteries. These specifications and included items are from Lumio’s product page.
Can Aura 5 connect to a TV, computer, phone or turntable?
Lumio lists HDMI 2.0 ARC/CEC, Bluetooth 5.4, USB, optical, coaxial and RCA analog inputs. For a compatible TV, Lumio says HDMI ARC/CEC can let the TV remote control speaker power and volume. Bluetooth provides wireless playback from a phone or other compatible device; the other digital and analog inputs accommodate sources such as computers, DACs and analog equipment.

The manufacturer says compatible digital inputs support lossless playback up to 24-bit/48 kHz and that FLAC playback is supported over USB. Those are product-page claims, not results from an independent compatibility test.
Turntable connection has a specific requirement
A turntable can connect only if it has a built-in phono preamp, according to Lumio. Appropriate cables are sold separately, so do not assume that every turntable can plug directly into the system.
What do Aura 5’s power and sound specifications tell you?
Lumio lists 100 W RMS continuous output at 1% THD and 200 W peak output. It also specifies 105 dB(C) continuous SPL and 112 dB(C) maximum SPL at one metre, plus an anechoic frequency response of 40 Hz–20 kHz ±3 dB. These are manufacturer specifications; they are not independent measurements or a guarantee of how the speakers will perform in a particular room.
There is also an inconsistency in Lumio’s low-frequency figures. Its descriptive product copy states 35 Hz at 80 dB for in-room extension, while the specifications section states 32 Hz at 80 dB. Neither should be treated as a definitive, independently verified result without clarification from Lumio. As MySmartPrice notes in its interview-based analysis, a bass-extension number on its own does not establish output at that frequency or performance in a real room.

Is the Aura 5 a better buy than a soundbar?
There is no evidence here to declare a category winner. Choose based on the setup you can accommodate and the sources you need, then compare current listings and independent evaluations of the specific alternatives.
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Placement | Can your room, desk or TV area fit two cabinets with useful left/right separation, or is a single-bar footprint more practical? |
| Connections and control | Check the exact inputs required for your TV and other devices, including ARC/CEC, Bluetooth, USB or analog connections. |
| Listening use | Consider how you use the system—TV, music or desk listening—and whether its modes and physical controls suit you. |
| Performance evidence | Look for independent listening or measurements that use conditions comparable to other systems you are considering. |
| Price and availability | Compare live retailer prices and included equipment rather than relying on launch announcements. |
The Times of India reported an announced launch price of ₹24,999 and an early-bird price of ₹19,999 starting October 15, 2026, with a planned Amazon India sale during the Great Indian Festival.
