Luis Binks described his Scotland debut at Hampden as a proud, lasting family moment, despite a difficult result against Switzerland. He said his late grandfather gave him his connection to Scotland, his family travelled to watch, and his mother would keep his first Scotland shirt. Binks also asked for patience with a young group still learning to work together under manager Sébastien Pocognoli.
Why Binks’s Scotland debut mattered to his family
In a post-match interview published by The National (Scotland), as carried by Inkl, Binks said making his debut was a goal he had worked towards for a long time. He qualified to represent Scotland through his late grandfather, making the occasion meaningful for both him and his family.
His family travelled to Hampden for the match. Binks said his mother would likely put his first Scotland shirt on the wall, and described the experience as something that would stay with him. Hearing “Flower of Scotland” at Hampden as a player gave the milestone an added emotional weight.

How the match turned against Scotland
The National’s account says Scotland had started reasonably well before an early setback. Jack Hendry was sent off after bringing down Dan Ndoye, and Switzerland scored from the resulting free kick within 12 minutes. Binks described the dismissal and goal as a sucker punch. He also noted that Switzerland’s three goals came from set pieces.

What Binks said about Jack Hendry
Binks backed his teammate after the sending-off and said Scotland did not need an apology. He said the players were supporting Hendry, framing the incident as the kind of risk defenders face in football. As a defender himself, Binks said he felt particular sympathy for him.

That response focused on keeping the squad together after an early incident had changed the match, rather than assigning blame.

Why Binks is urging patience with Scotland
Binks described the Scotland group as young and hungry, while cautioning that a newly assembled international team needs time. Unlike at a club, players meet for relatively short periods and have limited time on the training pitch together. He said it was too early to judge the group’s progress under Pocognoli.
“It’s hard to judge this early on, because it’s different to club football where you’re every day on the pitch.”

He remained positive about the players and manager, saying development would take time. At the same time, he acknowledged that supporters would expect a win in the next match and said the players had to go out and earn it.
“This is another thing that will take time, but I’m sure we’ll get to where we want to get to.”
