Ludhiana’s anti-dengue inspections continued through September 2026, and health teams still found mosquito larvae in water-holding containers at some premises. The reports describe district-wide checks, but do not identify which city neighbourhoods have persistent stagnant water, so no specific pockets can be named from the available accounts.

What Ludhiana’s latest anti-dengue checks found

The inspection figures are snapshots from separate drives on different dates, not totals to add together. The Tribune reported that on September 26, 2026, teams covered 414 designated areas, checked 12,682 households and 21,981 containers, and found 43 containers positive for larvae. The inspected sites included rooftop water tanks, air coolers, flower-pot trays and refrigerator drip trays. The Tribune’s September 26 report also listed a district status panel of 54 confirmed dengue cases, 5,726 suspected cases and 71 confirmed malaria cases.

In a separate drive reported on September 13, teams checked 10,846 homes and 25,258 containers across 267 areas. Larvae were detected in 45 houses and 49 containers, and the report said breeding sources found positive were eliminated. The Tribune’s September 13 report quoted Civil Surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur describing “Har Shukarvar Dengue te Vaar” (“Every Friday, a strike against dengue”) as a call for every household to take responsibility for prevention.

A September 29 search-result account from The Tribune described another Monday drive: teams visited 255 areas, checked 5,478 houses and 13,855 containers, and found larvae in 21 containers at 17 houses. It also said 236 government and private offices were inspected. The account referred to 42 fresh dengue cases identified two days earlier; that phrasing is not reconciled with the separate district case totals reported on other dates. The Tribune’s September 29 account was available as a search-result extract, so its figures should be read in that context.

Why the case counts differ by report

Case numbers must be read with their date and category. Hindustan Times reported 36 positive dengue cases by September 8, 2026, the same number as by that date in 2025. The Tribune’s September 26 district status panel later listed 54 confirmed cases and 5,726 suspected cases. Those figures use different reporting cutoffs and categories; they are not directly interchangeable. Hindustan Times’ September 10 report also said that 2025 cases reached 539 by December.

The same Hindustan Times report said 1,301 challans had been issued that season for larvae detections, compared with 1,646 from January through August 2025; 767 of the current-season challans were within Ludhiana city. District epidemiologist Dr Supreet Kaur attributed fewer larvae detections to a weaker monsoon, while the report noted that dengue case totals had not fallen. A lower detection or challan count alone therefore does not establish a lower dengue burden.

Which neighbourhoods have persistent stagnant water?

The September reports provide district-wide inspection counts, but the accounts covered here do not name particular city neighbourhoods as persistent stagnant-water hotspots. They establish that larvae-positive containers continued to be found at some homes, not where those homes were. Naming localities without locality-level health-department or municipal information would go beyond what these reports support.

What residents should check every Friday

Health teams and public messaging promote a weekly household check under “Har Shukarvar Dengue Te Vaar.” Look for water that can collect in or around the home, especially in:

Why stagnant water matters

The National Centre for Disease Control’s Punjab State Action Plan describes dengue as a viral disease transmitted by the infective bite of Aedes (Aegypti/Albopictus) mosquitoes. Its district table records 1,083 Ludhiana dengue cases in 2017, 489 in 2018, 1,509 in 2019, 1,355 in 2020 and 1,829 in 2021. These historical figures show variation across years; they do not establish the current season’s total. NCDC’s Punjab State Action Plan contains the disease description and historical district data.
