Louisiana officials, REV Fiber and local leaders marked the start of a fiber expansion expected to reach 2,840 locations in East Baton Rouge Parish, including 472 in Central. The state’s broadband office called it the country’s largest BEAD-funded broadband build to date; that is the state’s characterization, not a national ranking independently established by the available figures.
Where the fiber build is planned
The project centers on Central and surrounding areas in East Baton Rouge Parish. The Louisiana Office of Broadband Development & Connectivity’s announcement gives the total expected reach as 2,840 locations. Local reporting puts 472 of those locations in Central; the remaining locations are elsewhere in the parish project area.
REV Fiber is expected to build and deliver the network. The announcement describes a groundbreaking, but it does not establish that construction has since begun or that service is available at any address.
How GUMBO 2.0 and BEAD support the project
The build is part of Louisiana’s GUMBO 2.0 program and is federally funded in part through the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. Broadband Breakfast reported that federal BEAD support applies to about 2,500 locations, with REV Fiber covering the rest. That is a reported funding breakdown, not a final project-cost figure.

When service could reach Central
KPLC reported that a REV representative expected construction to begin in November 2026 and take seven to eight months. The report said service could be in place by the end of 2027 if the schedule holds and major storms do not disrupt work. These are conditional expectations, not a confirmed construction start or activation date.

Louisiana’s broadband office described the project as the country’s largest BEAD-funded broadband build to date.
