Ink Drops are a new resource mechanic in Disney Lorcana: Hyperia City
How Ink Drops work
In Lorcana, your inkwell holds the ink you use to pay costs. According to the preview, an Ink Drop is added to the inkwell, and it can be removed from the inkwell to produce one ink. Like a Treasure, a drop lets you spend resources you would not otherwise have. You can use it to play a more expensive card a turn early, or you can hold it for a card that rewards keeping or spending a drop at a specific moment.
Check the printed rules text on the cards themselves before building around this. The preview describes the mechanic in prose and does not quote official rules language.

How Ink Drops compare with Treasure tokens
The two mechanics overlap on the most basic function. They differ in what they are, how they are created, and how much design work the cards around them do. The table below uses the comparison points the preview draws.

The comparison is useful as a starting point, but it undersells the Lorcana version. A Treasure is mostly interesting for the mana it produces. An Ink Drop is interesting for the conditions attached to it.
How cards generate Ink Drops
The preview groups the example cards by ink color. Each group shows a different way drops enter play.
Emerald: Super characters
Fred – Awesome Boss generates a drop when a Super character is played. The preview also names Go Go Tomago – Extreme Tester and Baymax – Lab Assistant as other Super-oriented cards, and ties the theme to the Super characters from Big Hero 6.
Steel: movement
Central Station – Transportation Hub generates a drop when a character moves there. Arthur – Novice Assistant moves to a location and generates a drop. Paired with several locations, the preview suggests this can become a repeatable movement engine, which is a reasonable reading of the card pairing but not a measured result.

Steel: combat and challenges
The preview lists Arthur – Jousting Knight and Sir Pellinore – Tougher Than He Looks as cards that create drops by banishing characters. Shere Khan – Khan Industries CEO is cited as another challenge-related example. This group rewards you for winning exchanges, not just for developing your board.
Amethyst: Shift and value
Merlin, Bauble Expert generates a drop when an Arthur is in play. Merlin – Ink Drop Tinkerer adds two more drops when shifted. Used together, the preview describes a sequence that can produce three drops, but this is a possibility on paper, not a tested outcome.

Cards that pay off Ink Drops
Generating drops is only half the design. The preview names two payoff cards that reward you for spending them:
- Madam Mim – Resourceful Trickster draws cards when you cash in drops.
- Jousting Match deals more damage when you pay for it with one or more drops.
Because a drop is worth more to these cards than its one ink, deciding when to spend it becomes a real choice. Spend it early for tempo, or keep it for a payoff.
An illustrative Steel-Amethyst build
The preview’s showcase deck pairs Steel’s Arthur and location cards with Amethyst’s Merlin cards. It is best read as a demonstration of how the interactions connect, not as a proven strong deck. The preview itself says its strongest-deck claim is unestablished and that further experimentation would be needed. No tournament or play-test results are reported for this build, so do not treat it as a competitive recommendation.
Release timing and what to confirm
The preview reports that Hyperia City prerelease events at local game stores begin October 16, 2026, with a wider launch on October 23, 2026. Those dates are upcoming as of this writing, and because they come from a secondhand preview, confirm them against Ravensburger’s official announcements before planning around them.
