Those totals are reported figures, not independently audited measurements. The result came before the game’s stated base shiny odds of 1 in 8,192 encounters—but that figure is a probability per encounter, not a guaranteed wait.

Dexerto reported that Paul began hunting for the shiny Onix on September 19, 2026. His first stream reportedly lasted 34 hours and reached 3,705 encounters before he paused for a WWE Monday Night Raw appearance. On October 5, he announced that he had found the Pokémon after a reported total of 63 hours and 7,068 encounters. Dexerto’s report is the source for the timeline and totals.

The reported 7,068 is the total encounter count for the hunt, not necessarily the number of Onix encounters: Dexerto says other wild Pokémon could appear in the area, so each encounter did not guarantee an Onix.

How unusual was the result?
Dexerto gives the base chance for a wild Pokémon to be shiny in Pokémon Gold as 1 in 8,192 per encounter. Finding one in 7,068 reported encounters is earlier than that number, but it is not evidence by itself for or against the hunt’s legitimacy. The odds do not set a deadline: a shiny can appear before the 8,192nd encounter or take longer.

Did Logan Paul use hacks?
Paul denied using hacks. In a response on X quoted by Dexerto, he said he used an original Pokémon Gold cartridge in a GB Operator and that the hunt had been streamed live. That is Paul’s account; Dexerto’s report does not independently authenticate the cartridge, hardware, stream archive, or encounter counter.

At the time of Dexerto’s October 5 report, Paul planned to evolve the Onix into Shiny Steelix during a YouTube livestream scheduled for October 29, 2026. The report also said he planned to open two Pokémon Legendary Collection boxes during that later stream, describing their combined value as $400,000; that figure is Paul’s reported valuation, not an independently established market price.
