If you want an app like Locket, start by deciding what you want to keep: photos on a phone widget, a small circle of people you already know, or a shared stream of everyday moments. Product Hunt lists Retro, BeReal., WOLO, Snapshare Widget, Vibes Widget, and Love & Noteit Widget By Sendit as alternatives, but its short descriptions are discovery leads—not a verified, feature-by-feature comparison.
What Locket does—and what an alternative needs to replace
Locket is a close-friends photo-sharing app built around seeing friends’ pictures on a phone Home Screen widget. Apple’s App Store listing describes sending a picture from the app, receiving friends’ pictures on the widget, reacting, and building an image history with recap videos. The listing gives a 20-friend limit. Locket’s Help Center says the app is for connecting with people you already know, rather than finding strangers: “My teen asked me to get Locket. What is it?” (published March 26, 2026).
So “alternative” can mean more than one thing: a different way to put friends’ photos on a widget, a journal for a friend group, or a social app with a different sharing cadence. Product Hunt’s Locket Widget alternatives page supplies brief descriptions, but it does not establish that every listed app currently has Locket’s widget behavior, private-circle model, archive, or platform support.

| App | Product Hunt’s description | What that suggests to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| Retro | “A friends-only photo journal for moments big and small.” | The most explicitly journal-oriented option in the listing; confirm whether it offers the widget experience your group wants. |
| BeReal. | “Your Friends, for Real”; tagged for dual-camera photo sharing and social networking. | Consider it if you want a friend-focused social sharing format; confirm its current capture and audience controls. |
| WOLO: We Only Live Once | “One Day, One Photo.” | Investigate if a described daily-photo rhythm appeals more than ongoing casual sharing; check the current mechanics in the app. |
| Snapshare Widget | Shares a user’s day with friends in a Home Screen widget. | The listing explicitly mentions a Home Screen widget, making it a relevant lead if widget placement is essential. |
| Vibes Widget | A lock-screen social network. | Worth checking if lock-screen sharing is the specific feature you want; the directory description alone does not confirm its current feature set. |
| Love & Noteit Widget By Sendit | Listed with interactive widgets and photo-sharing tags. | Investigate its widget interactions and sharing scope; tags do not establish feature parity. |
How to choose an app like Locket
Where you want photos to appear
Locket’s defining placement is the phone Home Screen widget. Product Hunt explicitly mentions a Home Screen widget for Snapshare Widget and a lock-screen social network for Vibes Widget; for the other entries, the listing does not establish equivalent placement. If glancing at photos without opening a feed is the point, verify widget support on the exact device and operating system your friends use.
Who can see the photos
Locket is framed by its Help Center as an app for people who already know one another, with no stranger discovery. If privacy and a deliberately small social circle matter most, inspect an alternative’s invitation flow, audience settings, and discovery features rather than inferring them from a “friends” label.

How often people are expected to share
The directory’s “One Day, One Photo” description makes WOLO a lead to investigate for a more defined cadence. The brief descriptions do not confirm the exact prompt schedule or whether posting is optional. Check the app’s current rules against your group’s preference for spontaneous sharing or a routine.

Whether you want a live widget or a lasting record
Locket’s Apple listing describes reactions, an image history, and recap videos as well as the live widget. If your group values looking back at shared photos, compare archive and recap features directly; Product Hunt’s alternative summaries do not establish those capabilities for the other apps.
What the available ratings and dates do—and don’t—tell you
At retrieval in 2026, the U.S. Apple App Store listing showed 4.8 stars from 563K ratings, and Google Play showed 4.6 stars from 388K reviews and 10M+ downloads. These are volatile store metrics, not independent comparative quality research; Google Play’s download band is not an active-user count. Google Play showed a Locket update date of September 10, 2026. Product Hunt records Locket Widget’s launch date as January 16, 2022; that is the directory’s launch record, not a company founding date.

Bottom line: treat the list as a shortlist, not a ranking
Retro is the clearest journal-style lead, while Snapshare Widget is explicitly described as sharing to a Home Screen widget and Vibes Widget is described as lock-screen social networking. BeReal., WOLO, and Love & Noteit Widget By Sendit point to different sharing concepts. None can be called the best Locket replacement from these directory descriptions alone. Choose according to placement, audience, cadence, device support, and memory features, then verify those details in the app’s current official listing.
