The LIVALL PikaBoost 2 is a rear-mounted friction-drive kit that adds electric assistance to a compatible bicycle. LIVALL says it can recover energy while coasting downhill or pedaling in Workout Mode; that is a manufacturer description, not independently verified evidence of a particular energy gain or real-world range.
How the PikaBoost 2’s energy recovery is supposed to work
Unlike a hub motor, the PikaBoost 2 drives the bicycle through a roller that presses against the tire. LIVALL describes its Powerful Edition as recovering kinetic energy while coasting downhill or while pedaling in Workout Mode, then converting that energy into electricity. In Workout Mode, the motor adds resistance as you pedal.

LIVALL advertises approximately 100 W at around 25 km/h and says Workout Mode typically generates 1–3% battery per kilometre. The company qualifies the Workout Mode figure as dependent on terrain, bicycle and riding habits. Neither figure should be treated as an independent measurement or a guaranteed charging rate.
No independent controlled test validating the PikaBoost 2’s energy recovery or advertised maximum range is established by the available product information. The recovery feature is best understood as a vendor claim about how the system operates, not proof that it will materially extend every ride.

Will PikaBoost 2 fit your bicycle?
Fit is not determined by wheel diameter alone. LIVALL’s product FAQ says, “Compatibility depends on the seatpost, tire, frame, rear rack, fender, and suspension—not wheel size alone.” Check the specific bicycle and the exact kit edition before buying.
- Seatpost: LIVALL support specifies a round seatpost diameter of 25–35 mm.
- Tire: Support specifies a width of 25–65 mm. LIVALL’s product page also gives a typical outer tire diameter range of 16–29 inches; this is an additional check, not a substitute for checking width and clearances.
- Clearance and mounting: Assess space around the seatpost, frame, rear rack and fender, and whether the roller can sit correctly against the tire.
- Suspension: LIVALL advises against rear-suspension bicycles because suspension movement can make the rear mounting unstable and may cause the unit to fall or damage rigid connection points.
The device weighs about 3 kg, according to LIVALL Support’s 2025 specifications. Its support documentation lists 500 W peak power, while noting output is adjusted according to riding mode, road conditions and other factors.

LIVALL describes Assist, Cruise, Workout and Standby modes for the Powerful Edition. The remote switches between Cruise and Assist; LIVALL says the app is needed to change other modes. Assistance is described as activating once the bicycle reaches 5 km/h, so it may provide less help when starting uphill from a stop.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What range can you expect?
LIVALL advertises up to 70 km (43 miles) with the 220 Wh battery. The product page says actual range varies with the rider, hills and mode; LIVALL support also identifies temperature, tire, assistance level and riding conditions as factors. “Up to” is a best-case manufacturer claim, not a promise of that distance on a particular route.
For a practical estimate, consider your route, the assistance mode you intend to use, tire condition and the temperature, and leave margin rather than planning around the advertised maximum. The cited product information does not establish an independently measured range for a representative rider or route.
Install and check the friction drive before riding
Use LIVALL’s current installation guide and user manual for the relevant edition. Because the motor transfers force through tire contact, correct roller alignment and a secure clamp matter to operation as well as safety.
- Confirm the bicycle meets the kit’s seatpost and tire requirements, with adequate clearance around the frame, rack and fender.
- Mount the unit according to the current manual and tighten the clamp securely.
- Center the drive roller on the tire and check that it contacts correctly.
- Check for rubbing and confirm the assembly remains secure. If the clamp is loose, the roller is off-center or anything rubs, do not ride; correct the installation first.
LIVALL’s manual says conversion-kit rules vary by jurisdiction and puts responsibility for compliance on the rider. Before using the kit on public roads, check the local rules for motor power, assisted speed and e-bike classification; the product’s stated specifications do not by themselves determine whether a converted bicycle is legal where you ride.
