Use 1200 × 627 pixels at a 1.91:1 ratio for a LinkedIn landscape link preview or Page-post custom image in 2026. It is LinkedIn’s current shared-content recommendation and the safest default for a still landscape asset. Paid single-image ads specify 1200 × 628 pixels, while 1920 × 1080 is for horizontal video—not ordinary still images.
The correct LinkedIn landscape size in 2026
For a landscape image attached to a LinkedIn Page post or shown as a shared-link preview, create a canvas that is 1200 pixels wide by 627 pixels high. That is a 1.91:1 aspect ratio, matching LinkedIn Help’s current wording: “Use a 1.91:1 ratio (1200 x 627 pixels).”
This size gives you enough resolution for desktop and mobile rendering while matching the shape LinkedIn expects for shared content. Keep the original file at that exact size rather than relying on LinkedIn to crop a larger, differently shaped image.
Which LinkedIn placement are you publishing?
LinkedIn has different specifications for shared links, member photos, ads and video. Choose the row that matches your placement before exporting.

| Placement | Recommended landscape dimensions | Ratio | Important limits or notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Page-post custom image or shared-link preview | 1200 × 627 px | 1.91:1 | Use this as the general still-image default. Shared-content guidance lists a 1200 × 627 minimum for link previews; Recruiter guidance lists a 5 MB maximum. |
| Ordinary uploaded member photo | At least 1080 px wide; 1200 × 627 works | 3:1 to 4:5 accepted | Minimum 552 × 276 px; upload limit 5 MB. LinkedIn recommends a width of at least 1080 px. |
| Single-image advertisement | 1200 × 628 px | 1.91:1 | Placement-specific ad specification. Horizontal ads also support 640 × 360 px minimum and 7680 × 4320 px maximum; file limit 5 MB. |
| Horizontal video | 1920 × 1080 px | 16:9 | These are video dimensions, not the default still-image landscape size. |
1200 × 627 vs. 1200 × 628: which one should you use?
Both dimensions describe a 1.91:1 landscape shape, but they belong to different LinkedIn specifications. Use 1200 × 627 for a Page-post custom image or shared-link preview. Use 1200 × 628 when you are preparing a paid single-image ad.
The one-pixel difference is not a mistake that requires you to redesign every asset. It reflects the placement-specific guidance. If one image must serve both organic shared content and an ad, 1200 × 627 is the practical baseline; check the ad-upload interface before launching the campaign and export a 1200 × 628 version if it requests that exact size.
Can you use 1920 × 1080?
You can upload a 1920 × 1080 file as a landscape image in some contexts, but it is a 16:9 video shape rather than LinkedIn’s recommended still-image shape. Compared with 1200 × 627, 16:9 is shorter in height, so text or subjects positioned for the recommended 1.91:1 canvas can be cropped or displayed with different framing.
Use 1920 × 1080 when the asset is horizontal video. For a still link preview or Page image, start at 1200 × 627 instead.

Design a landscape image that survives LinkedIn cropping
Keep the safe area inside the canvas
LinkedIn can adjust presentation across devices and placements. Leave a visible margin around logos, headlines, faces, product screenshots and other essential details. Do not place a thin line of text or a logo flush against the top, bottom or side edge.
Design for both desktop and mobile
Preview the post on a wide desktop layout and a narrow mobile layout. Check that the headline remains readable at thumbnail size, the focal subject is not hidden, and no important detail sits where the interface may overlay controls or metadata.
Use a simple hierarchy
- Put one clear message or headline in the most visually prominent area.
- Use strong contrast between text and its background.
- Keep body copy short; a social preview is not a full article page.
- Use a logo at a consistent, modest size instead of filling the entire frame.
- Reserve the outer edge as breathing room so minor presentation changes do not remove meaning.
Choose an export format and file size
For photographic or gradient-heavy artwork, export a high-resolution JPEG; LinkedIn’s Page-image guidance recommends high-resolution JPEG over PNG for best image resolution. PNG is useful for sharp interface screenshots, flat graphics or transparency, but verify that the resulting file stays under the applicable 5 MB limit.
Exact workflow for creating the asset
- Create the canvas: set width to 1200 px and height to 627 px for an organic Page image or link preview. For a single-image ad, create a separate 1200 × 628 px version.
- Place the focal content: keep headlines, faces and logos away from all four edges. Check the smallest text at a reduced preview size.
- Export: choose high-quality JPEG for photos or a suitable PNG for transparent or interface-heavy artwork. Confirm the pixel dimensions after export.
- Check the file size: keep the upload below 5 MB where the placement’s guidance specifies that limit.
- Preview before posting: inspect the image in LinkedIn’s composer and on both desktop and mobile layouts. Correct the source file rather than expecting the platform to fix an awkward crop.
- Publish only after approval: uploaded member photos cannot be resized or edited after posting, so verify the crop, spelling and dimensions first.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
Using a square post template
Symptom: the image looks cramped or large portions are cut from a landscape composition. Fix: rebuild at 1200 × 627 for shared content, then reposition the subject rather than stretching the square artwork.

Confusing an ad specification with an organic post
Symptom: a 1200 × 628 ad file is used as the only master and appears one pixel different from the Page recommendation. Fix: maintain two exports when the same campaign has organic and paid placements: 1200 × 627 and 1200 × 628.
Uploading 1920 × 1080 still artwork
Symptom: text near the top or bottom is clipped in a preview. Fix: move the design to the 1.91:1 canvas or recompose it for 1200 × 627.
File rejected for size
Symptom: the upload fails even though the dimensions are correct. Fix: inspect the file size, compress the JPEG, remove unnecessary metadata and export again. Stay below the 5 MB limit listed for the relevant placement.

Symptom: small type and fine lines blur after upload. Fix: start with the recommended pixel dimensions, export from the original rather than an already-compressed copy, and use high-quality JPEG settings for photographic content.

Automate previews and verification with ScreenshotNeo
If your team generates many campaign variants, you can capture the final public LinkedIn preview or a staging page at the exact viewport you need instead of repeatedly checking it by hand. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, with options such as a custom viewport, retina scale, full-page capture, CSS selectors, custom CSS and JavaScript, waits, request blocking, cookies, headers, geolocation and caching.
Or skip the browser setup
One GET request is enough to capture a page. The API accepts the URL as a parameter; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for all options.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Performance, reliability and cost considerations
- Keep source files organized: store separate masters for 1200 × 627 organic content, 1200 × 628 ads and 1920 × 1080 video.
- Automate dimension checks: reject exports whose width, height or file size does not match the intended placement before they reach a social scheduler.
- Use caching for repeated previews: when checking an unchanged staging URL, a cache with a chosen TTL avoids unnecessary recaptures.
- Wait for dynamic content: if a preview page loads its hero image or consent state asynchronously, wait for a selector, a delay or network idle before capturing.
- Verify status headers: ScreenshotNeo returns page-verdict and billing headers, allowing a job to distinguish a clean capture from a blocked or failed load.

Does LinkedIn require exactly 1200 pixels wide?
No. Member photos can be wider or use other ratios, but LinkedIn recommends at least 1080 pixels wide and accepts ratios from 3:1 to 4:5.
Why does an ad use 628 pixels instead of 627?
The 1200 × 628 measurement belongs to LinkedIn’s single-image ad specification; 1200 × 627 is the shared-content recommendation.
Can I edit a member photo after posting?
No. Uploaded member photos cannot be resized or edited after posting, so check the crop and dimensions before publishing.
