Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored 188 not out from 79 balls for the Titans against the Knights, surpassing Chris Gayle’s 175 not out as the reported highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket. Reports say the Titans made 267/3; Pretorius hit 15 fours and 13 sixes.
How Pretorius passed Gayle’s mark
Pretorius’s innings was reported by Rajasthan Royals, cricket.com.au and BBC Sport as the new men’s T20 individual-score record. The distinction is specific: it is a reported record for men’s T20 cricket, not a claim about T20 internationals alone, and the status can change if a later innings exceeds it.
Rajasthan Royals reported Pretorius’s strike rate as 237.97. His 15 fours and 13 sixes account for 118 runs in boundaries; the remaining 70 came through running between the wickets or other scoring. The 79-ball innings also matched the men’s T20 record for most balls faced in an innings, according to Rajasthan Royals, which said that mark was previously shared by Aaron Finch and Marcus Stoinis.
The Titans–Knights match
Pretorius played for the Titans against the Knights, with the match taking place in Bloemfontein according to TimesLIVE. Reports put the Titans’ total at 267/3. The competition’s name is not consistent across the coverage: cricket.com.au describes the fixture as a CSA T20 Challenge match, while TimesLIVE calls it the YesPlay Pro20 Cup. Without an official scorecard to settle the naming, it is safest to identify the match simply as a Titans–Knights domestic T20 fixture.

Hindustan Times reports that Gayle’s innings came in the 2013 IPL and that RCB won by 130 runs. Pretorius scored 13 more runs than Gayle, but used 13 more balls; the two innings also came in different matches and circumstances, so the figures compare the individual scores rather than identical conditions.
What is established—and what remains qualified
Multiple reports support the innings and team-total figures, but the available coverage does not identify a governing body’s formal ratification or provide an official scorecard. The most precise description is therefore that Pretorius’s 188 not out has been reported as the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket, overtaking Gayle’s 175 not out.
