Yes. LG Display says its new laptop LCD can automatically vary its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, using the lowest rate for static content and raising it when smoother motion is needed. The company claims the technology improves battery usage by more than 48%, but its announcement does not provide enough test detail to treat that figure as a guaranteed whole-laptop runtime gain.
How LG’s 1Hz laptop display works
A display refresh rate is the number of times per second the screen updates its image. LG Display’s “Oxide 1Hz” LCD can vary between 1Hz and 120Hz: it can slow down when content is static, such as while reading, then increase the rate automatically for activity such as scrolling, video or games.
Reducing refreshes during still moments can reduce display-driving activity. The point is not to keep the screen at 1Hz all the time; higher refresh rates remain available when motion benefits from them.

What LG says about battery life
LG Display’s March 22, 2026 announcement says battery usage improved by more than 48%. That is LG’s published claim, not an independently established runtime result. The release does not spell out a full-laptop test protocol, including the notebook configuration, workload or measurement method, so the figure should not be read as a promise that every laptop with the panel will run 48% longer.

Actual battery life depends on the entire laptop and how it is used. The panel’s adaptive rate is designed to help during static work, while activity that calls for a higher refresh rate may reduce that benefit.
Which Dell XPS laptops have the display?
LG identifies Dell’s flagship XPS lineup as the first customer for the panel and says Dell unveiled XPS models featuring it at CES 2026. LG’s announcement does not specify model numbers, regional configurations, prices or retail availability. Check the exact Dell SKU and its display specifications before buying; the announcement alone does not establish which XPS configurations in a particular market include the panel.

What is known—and not known—about the panel
LG’s announcement establishes the variable refresh-rate range and the initial XPS connection, but it does not give buyers a complete specification sheet for choosing between laptop configurations.

When will 1Hz OLED laptop displays arrive?
LG Display says it is preparing an OLED panel using the same 1Hz technology for mass production from 2027. That is a manufacturing roadmap, not a confirmed retail launch date or a guarantee that a specific laptop will ship with the OLED version in 2027.
LG Display Medium Display Product Planning Division head Jae-won Jang said the company would deliver “differentiated customer value through a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate that integrates world class technology.”
