LG’s UltraGear evo GX9 (39GX950B-B) is a 39-inch curved OLED gaming monitor with a 5120×2160, 21:9 display. LG called it the world’s first 39-inch 5K2K curved OLED gaming monitor based on published OLED gaming-monitor specifications as of March 2026. Its US preorder has ended; the model was later reported available in several markets, but stock and pricing should be checked with local retailers.

What LG’s “world’s first” claim means

LG announced the UltraGear evo GX9 on April 7, 2026, describing it as the world’s first 39-inch 5K2K curved OLED gaming monitor. The company’s product-page qualification limits the comparison to published OLED gaming-monitor specifications as of March 2026. It is not a claim to have invented OLED, 5K-class displays, or every kind of 5K monitor. LG’s product page and April 2026 launch announcement describe the product and the scope of the claim.

Resolution, refresh rate and panel specifications

The curved 39-inch panel has a native resolution of 5120×2160 pixels, a 21:9 aspect ratio, a 1500R curve and 143 pixels per inch, according to LG. The 5K2K format provides a broad workspace for games and desktop applications, but it also asks the graphics card to render many pixels.

Specification LG-listed detail
Panel 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem OLED
Resolution and aspect ratio 5120×2160; 21:9
Curve and density 1500R; 143 pixels per inch
Refresh modes 165Hz at 5K2K or 330Hz at Wide Full HD (WFHD)
Response time 0.03ms GtG
Typical brightness 335 nits
HDR certification VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500

These are manufacturer specifications, not a promise that every PC can run the monitor at its maximum refresh rate. LG says actual refresh performance depends on the computer’s graphics configuration and that supported hardware is required for the maximum rate. The advertised 330Hz mode is WFHD, not the native 5120×2160 resolution. Check the graphics card’s supported output and the connection requirements in LG’s specifications and footnotes before buying.

What the resolution means for gaming

At 5120×2160, the monitor has 33% more pixels than standard 4K, according to TechRadar’s September 28, 2026 review. That can make games more demanding to run smoothly than on a 4K display. TechRadar notes that upscaling may be important for smooth gameplay; the result will depend on the game, settings and graphics hardware, so no universal frame rate can be inferred from the monitor’s refresh specification.

LG lists DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20), HDMI 2.1 and a USB-C port with up to 90W power delivery. USB-C power delivery can help connect and charge a compatible laptop, but the port’s presence alone does not establish that a particular computer can drive the panel at its highest resolution and refresh rate. Confirm the required mode and cable support for the device you plan to use.

How it compares with the Alienware AW3926QW

TechRadar’s September 2026 review discusses the Alienware AW3926QW as an alternative. The review characterizes the LG’s finish as matte and anti-glare and the Alienware’s as glossy, and notes differences in HDR support and connections. Those distinctions may matter more than a small price difference if you have a strong preference about reflections, HDR features or the ports needed for your setup. The review’s comparison and prices reflect its publication date, not live market conditions; check TechRadar’s review and current listings for the details that matter to you.

Who should consider the GX9?

  • Consider it if you want a large, curved ultrawide OLED panel with a high native resolution and a choice between 5K2K at 165Hz and WFHD at 330Hz.
  • Check your PC first if you expect to play demanding games at the native resolution and high frame rates. The pixel load may require reduced settings or upscaling, and the maximum refresh modes depend on compatible graphics hardware.
  • Compare alternatives if you care about a glossy rather than matte finish, or need particular HDR features or connections; TechRadar identifies the Alienware AW3926QW as a relevant model to examine.
  • Verify the deal locally because the US and Canadian figures above are dated launch prices, and the preorder promotion is over.
