LG’s gram line pairs lightweight laptops with AI features that can work either on-device or through the cloud. The details depend on the model year and configuration: the 2025 gram Pro range includes 16- and 17-inch models with optional RTX 5050 graphics, while LG’s 2026 lineup broadens processor choices and adds features such as Aerominum on select Pro models. Here’s what the specifications and LG’s claims mean when choosing between them.
Are the new LG gram laptops actually light?
Yes, though the weight depends on the exact model and configuration. In its 2025 U.S. launch release, LG lists the 16-inch gram Pro 16Z90TR at 3.0 pounds and the 17-inch 17Z90TR at 3.3 pounds; thickness is listed as low as 0.6 inches. An earlier LG CES announcement gives 2.64 pounds for the 16Z90TR. Because those figures differ for the same model number, treat 3.0 pounds as the launch-release figure rather than assuming every 16Z90TR configuration weighs that amount—or that the lighter CES figure applies to every version.
The larger 17-inch model is still notably light for its screen size on LG’s stated figures. But “gram” does not mean every configuration is equally portable: discrete graphics and other component choices can affect weight. Check the specific configuration’s listing before buying.
What changed between the 2025 and 2026 gram lineups?
The 2025 gram Pro announcement centers on Intel Core Ultra processors, with RTX 5050 graphics listed for the Pro range. LG’s 2026 lineup expands processor choice to Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI options, and adds select Pro models with an Aerominum chassis material. LG also describes updated connectivity and AI features across the newer family. Those are lineup-level descriptions; they do not mean every feature or processor is available in every model.

What does “chock-full of AI” mean on an LG gram?

gram Chat On-Device
The on-device feature uses a small language model derived from LG AI Research’s EXAONE model. LG says it can process information locally without a network connection. Its Time Travel feature is intended to help revisit previously viewed web pages, documents, videos and audio. Local processing can be useful when offline, but it should not be confused with a claim that every AI task runs without an internet connection.

gram Chat Cloud
The cloud version is powered by GPT-4o and uses web-based data. LG says it can also connect to calendar and email services. For 2025 models, LG offered cloud-service access free for the first year after registration; the cost after that period is not specified in the available product information. Do not assume the initial offer is ongoing or applies to 2026 models.

Copilot+ and other AI features
Copilot+ features are available on Lunar Lake models. LG’s 2026 release also lists up to 50 TOPS of NPU performance for a regular gram configuration, plus Dual AI and updated gram Link. The 50-TOPS figure is a maximum for the cited configuration, not a specification for every gram. LG says gram Link supports sharing and calls across Windows, iOS and Android; its 2026 description adds LG webOS devices. Features and compatibility depend on model and connected device.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which gram configuration fits your work?
- For a large screen with a focus on portability: Compare the 16- and 17-inch Pro configurations by their exact listed weight, screen and price. LG’s stated 2025 weights are relatively low for these screen sizes, but the 16Z90TR’s two published figures make checking the precise configuration especially important.
- For graphics-heavy creative work or gaming: An RTX 5050-equipped 2025 Pro configuration offers discrete graphics. LG’s published information does not establish independent performance results, so the component list alone cannot tell you how well a particular game or creative application will run.
- For AI features and local processing: Check whether a model uses a Lunar Lake processor if Copilot+ features matter, and confirm which gram Chat functions are supported on that configuration. Cloud Chat depends on internet access; On-Device is the local-processing option described by LG.
- For a convertible form factor: The gram 2-in-1 adds tablet mode and stylus support. That is the key functional difference from a conventional gram Pro laptop; choose it if you expect to write or draw directly on the screen.
- For battery life: Compare battery capacity and independent results for the exact model where available, rather than treating LG’s maximum playback figure as a prediction of everyday runtime.
How long does the LG gram battery last in real use?
LG claims up to 27 hours of video playback for the 2025 gram Pro under its stated test conditions: Full HD video, wireless off, 150-nit screen brightness, earphones and default options. This is a manufacturer test result, not an independent real-world measurement. Browsing over Wi-Fi, video calls, demanding applications, higher brightness and different power settings can change runtime. The available information does not establish how many hours a typical user should expect from each configuration.
Quick Recap
What should you verify before buying?
- Confirm the full model number and configuration, including processor, graphics, memory, storage and display.
- Check the exact listed weight for that configuration; the two LG-published figures for the 16Z90TR are not identical.
- Confirm whether the model supports the AI features you want, and whether they run locally, require a connection or require registration.
- Check current retailer pricing and availability. LG’s figures above are U.S. launch or release prices and may no longer match current offers.
