LG’s UltraGear 45GX990A is a 45-inch OLED gaming monitor that can move from flat to a 900R curve. LG announced it on December 30, 2024, ahead of CES 2025, calling it the world’s first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED display. Its 21:9 screen has a resolution of 5,120 × 2,160 pixels, and LG’s second-generation Dual-Mode offers preset combinations of resolution, refresh rate, aspect ratio, and picture size. The announcement does not establish the monitor’s retail price, release date by country, or final retail refresh-rate specification.
What is the LG UltraGear 45GX990A?
The 45GX990A is the central product in LG Electronics’ UltraGear GX9 series. It combines a 45-inch, 21:9 OLED panel with 5K2K resolution—5,120 × 2,160 pixels—and a motorized design that lets the screen transition between flat and curved. LG announced the series on December 30, 2024, ahead of CES 2025, and described this model as the world’s first bendable OLED display at that resolution. LG’s announcement lists a 0.03ms GtG response time for the 45GX990A.
LG says the GX9 series uses WOLED panels, a low-blue-light certification, and an Anti-Glare & Low Reflection coating. Those descriptions do not establish independent measurements of glare, eye strain, or image quality. LG also says the 45GX990A received three CES 2025 Innovation Awards, including Best of Innovation; that award claim comes from LG’s announcement.

Flat or 900R curved
The screen can change from completely flat to a 900R curvature within seconds. A flatter profile may be more comfortable for document work, editing, or general desktop use, while the curved setting is intended to bring more of the wide display into view during games. Those are practical interpretations of the available shapes, not results from an independent usability test.

Preset aspect ratios and picture sizes
LG’s second-generation Dual-Mode switches among eight configurations, with customizable 21:9 or 16:9 aspect ratios and picture sizes of 39, 34, or 27 inches. This gives users ways to trade the ultrawide view for a more conventional frame or a smaller active picture, depending on the game and desk setup. LG identifies FPS, RPG, MOBA, and racing games as relevant use cases, but the announcement does not document compatibility results for individual titles. LG’s GX9 series release describes the Dual-Mode options.
What refresh rate does the 45GX990A support?
LG’s announcement for the 45GX990A does not give a model-specific refresh-rate figure. LG Display later described a related 45-inch 5K2K Gaming OLED panel with Dynamic Frequency & Resolution modes: FHD at 330Hz or 5K2K at 165Hz. These are panel-level figures from LG Display’s February 18, 2025 announcement, not confirmed retail specifications for the 45GX990A. Check the exact model and regional product listing before buying rather than assuming those modes apply to this monitor.

Could a 5K2K ultrawide suit gaming and work?
The 21:9 format offers more horizontal workspace than 16:9 while remaining less extreme than 32:9, according to LG. At 5,120 × 2,160, the display combines that wide layout with high pixel detail, which may be useful for placing multiple windows side by side as well as for games that support ultrawide resolutions. Whether that balance is worthwhile depends on your work software, game support, viewing distance, graphics hardware, and preference for a wide field of view.
- For mixed work and play: The flat mode and 21:9 workspace may be useful for documents, editing, and multitasking; confirm that your applications make effective use of the wide desktop.
- For immersive games: The 900R curve and 21:9 presentation are designed to create a more enveloping view, but game support and personal preference matter.
- For competitive play: Check the final monitor’s verified refresh-rate modes and your games’ aspect-ratio behavior. The model-specific announcement does not establish its retail refresh rate.
- For OLED ownership: LG’s announcement does not provide a long-term burn-in test or warranty terms for this model. Check the warranty and usage guidance for the exact regional product before purchase.
