The LG UltraFine 24MD4KL-B is a compact 4K monitor best suited to Mac users who value crisp detail, wide-gamut color, and single-cable Thunderbolt connectivity. Its 23.74-inch IPS panel is exceptionally sharp, and its Thunderbolt connection can deliver up to 85 W of laptop charging. But 60 Hz operation, no HDMI or DisplayPort, and limited stand adjustment make it a specialized choice rather than an all-purpose display.
What the LG UltraFine 24MD4KL-B offers
The 24MD4KL-B has a 23.74-inch-class IPS panel with a native resolution of 3840 × 2160 and a 16:9 aspect ratio. At this screen size, text and fine image detail look especially sharp. LG specifies a 0.1369 mm pixel pitch, 500 cd/m² typical brightness, 1200:1 typical contrast, and 1.07 billion colors. Its stated DCI-P3 coverage is 98% (CIE 1976), a wide gamut suited to color-focused creative work.

The combination of 4K resolution, high pixel density, and a wide stated color gamut makes this a strong fit for photo work, design, and video editing when a smaller screen is desirable. In TechRadar’s 2019 review, Jackie Thomas praised its color accuracy and vivid brightness, while noting its thick bezels and high price at the time. The review’s conclusion was aimed at photographers and video editors, not every type of monitor buyer.

Color-gamut coverage is not the same as a guarantee that every unit is perfectly calibrated for a particular workflow. If color-critical work is central to your purchase, check the calibration and color-management requirements of your applications and workflow rather than treating the gamut figure alone as proof of out-of-box accuracy.
MacBook connection and charging
The monitor’s clearest advantage is its Thunderbolt 3 integration. Connect a compatible Mac to the Thunderbolt input using a certified Thunderbolt 3 cable; the connection carries display and data, and can charge a compatible laptop at up to 85 W. The second Thunderbolt port can be used for daisy chaining, while the three downstream USB-C ports provide hub connectivity.

- Confirm that the Mac has a Thunderbolt 3 connection and supports the display configuration you need.
- Connect the Mac to the monitor’s Thunderbolt input with a certified Thunderbolt 3 cable. A USB-C-shaped connector alone does not mean an ordinary USB-C cable will provide the same video, data, and power behavior.
- Connect peripherals to the monitor’s downstream USB-C ports. Use the second Thunderbolt port if you need a supported daisy-chain connection.
LG specifies a Thunderbolt 3-enabled Mac for the full feature set. Check the specifications of both the computer and cable before buying; the monitor’s charging figure is a maximum, not a promise that every connected laptop will draw 85 W.

Windows use depends on the computer’s USB-C or Thunderbolt capability and the full adapter path. The monitor has no HDMI or DisplayPort input, so a Windows laptop or desktop without a suitable Thunderbolt/USB-C display connection cannot simply be connected through a conventional video cable. TechRadar’s review described the Windows experience as materially weaker than the Mac experience. If you need straightforward compatibility across different computers, a monitor with HDMI and DisplayPort is the safer choice.

What are the drawbacks?
- 60 Hz refresh rate: It is not designed for high-refresh-rate gaming or unusually fluid motion.
- No HDMI or DisplayPort: The Thunderbolt-focused input selection limits connection options and can complicate Windows setups.
- Restricted stand movement: The stand adjusts for height and tilt, but does not offer the broad rotation and horizontal movement found on some office monitors.
- No established HDR feature in the listed specifications: If HDR playback or production is a requirement, confirm that the particular display meets your needs before purchase.
- Compact workspace: The high pixel density is appealing, but the 23.74-inch panel gives less physical screen area than a larger 4K monitor.
The built-in stereo speakers are rated at 5 W per channel. That is convenient for basic listening, calls, and alerts; the published rating alone does not establish sound quality for monitoring or critical audio work.

The stand supports height and tilt adjustment. For more positioning flexibility, the monitor has a 100 × 100 mm VESA mounting pattern. LG says the VESA bracket is not included, so a compatible arm or wall mount requires a separate purchase. The display weighs 7.0 kg with its stand; check the mount’s load rating and compatibility before installation.

Is it still worth buying?
It can be worth buying if you specifically want compact 4K sharpness, wide-gamut color, Thunderbolt-based Mac integration, and up to 85 W charging in one cable. It is a less compelling fit if you need conventional video inputs, gaming-oriented refresh rates, extensive stand articulation, HDR, or a large screen at a low price.
TechRadar recorded a US Apple Store price of $699 in its July 29, 2019 review and described availability as limited at that time. That is historical pricing, not a current quote; price and stock vary by region and date. Compare its current local price with newer 27-inch 4K displays, which may offer more inputs, better ergonomics, HDR, or higher refresh rates for similar or lower cost.
