For most LG TVs, start with the Sports picture mode if it is available, then compare it with Standard. Keep the mode that makes the field, uniforms, and faces look natural in your room. Adjust motion separately: TruMotion can make fast action look smoother, but too much processing may look artificial. There is no single best setting for every LG model, broadcast, and room.
Start with Sports mode, then check Standard
Press the Settings button on the remote, open All Settings if shown, and look under Picture or Picture Settings. Choose Picture Mode or Select Mode, then select Sports if your TV offers it. LG describes Sport Mode as suitable for many at-home fans, but a preset is a starting point rather than a universal calibration.
Watch a few minutes of live play. If the grass looks neon-bright, colors seem exaggerated, or faces look unnatural, switch to Standard and compare the same scene. LG says the image you see depends not only on the TV’s capabilities but also on room lighting, screen reflectance, picture settings, and the video content (LG’s picture-setting guidance).

A bright room may call for a brighter picture than a dark room. LG’s support page gives the following environment-based examples; they are not sports-specific targets and may not map exactly to every model or menu. “Backlight / OLED Light” is the label used in LG’s examples.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vivid / natural light | 100 | 100 | 50 | 30 | 70 | 0 | C50 |
| Standard / artificial light | 80 | 85 | 50 | 25 | 50 | 0 | C20 |
| Cinema / dark room | 80 | 85 | 50 | 10 | 50 | 0 | 0 |
These are LG’s sample values, published September 3, 2026, for different viewing environments—not measured optimal sports settings. Use them as context, not a prescription; LG notes that results vary with the TV, room, and content (LG USA Support).
Set sharpness and tint conservatively
More sharpness does not necessarily reveal more real detail. LG says a sharpness setting of zero is acceptable and warns that excessive sharpness can unnaturally accentuate lines and contours. If edges around players or field markings look outlined, reduce sharpness rather than increasing it.

Leave tint or hue at its baseline unless you have a clear color cast to correct. LG’s sports guidance describes tint as the green/red balance control and recommends leaving it alone for typical viewing (LG Experience: sports picture settings).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTest TruMotion with live action and replays
TruMotion processes movement to make fast-moving images look smoother or clearer. Whether you prefer it depends on the content and your tolerance for processing artifacts; LG does not establish one ideal sports value. Compare the available options while watching a camera pan, a ball crossing the field, and a replay. If motion looks overly smooth or artificial, lower TruMotion or turn it off. If fast movement looks blurry, try a clearer or smoother option if your model offers one.

Menu labels differ by model and webOS version. LG’s examples include these routes:
- webOS 22 and webOS 6: Settings > All Settings > Picture > Advanced Settings > Clarity > TruMotion.
- webOS 5: Settings > All Settings > Picture Mode Settings > Picture Option > TruMotion.
Depending on the TV, motion choices may use labels such as Cinematic, Natural, or Smooth, or include Off, Smooth, Clear, and User. User mode may expose De-Judder and De-Blur controls. These choices are model-dependent, so use the on-screen guide or manual if your labels differ. LG also notes that TruMotion may be unavailable while Game mode is selected; ordinary broadcast sports do not require Game mode (LG TruMotion guidance).

If the picture looks dim, check Energy Saving
Before raising several picture controls, check whether an energy-saving option is reducing brightness. LG identifies Energy Saving and an unsuitable picture mode as common causes of a dim picture. To check Energy Saving Step, use the path for your software generation:
- webOS 26 or later: Settings > All Settings > System > Energy Saving > Energy Saving Step > Off.
- webOS 22–25: Settings > All Settings > General > Energy Saving > Energy Saving Step > Off.
- webOS 6: Settings > Support > Energy Saving > Energy Saving Step > Off.
- webOS 5 and earlier: Settings > All Settings > Picture > Energy Saving > Off.
Turning energy saving off can make the picture brighter, but it is a choice between screen output and your power preference—not a required sports setting. If only one channel is dim, LG says signal quality or antenna alignment may be involved. These paths reflect LG’s support guidance updated July 28, 2026; menus on standard models can differ (LG dim-screen troubleshooting).
Find the equivalent controls on your model
On many sets, press the Settings gear, open All Settings, and look under Picture. Newer models may use labels such as Select Mode and Clarity; older ones may show Picture Mode Settings or Picture Option. LG’s paths and features vary by model and software version, so consult the built-in user guide or your model’s manual when a menu item is missing.
For a practical comparison, change one thing at a time: first Sports versus Standard, then the available motion option. Judge visibility in your room, natural-looking greens and uniforms, motion clarity without distracting artifacts, and comfort over a full match.
