The LG Sound Suite M7 is a mains-powered Wi-Fi speaker that can play music by itself or become a surround speaker in an LG Dolby Atmos FlexConnect system. It is most compelling if you want that flexibility and already own—or plan to buy—a compatible LG TV or the H7 soundbar. If you simply want a standalone smart speaker, its dependence on power and its ecosystem-specific theater features make the fit less straightforward.
What the LG Sound Suite M7 is
LG describes the M7 as a 2.1.1-channel wireless speaker with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect capability. It has three full-range drivers and a woofer engineered by Peerless; LG lists total amplifier output at 100 W RMS. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measures of loudness or sound quality. The published dimensions, including the base, are approximately 177.0 × 238.3 × 177.0 mm. LG’s manual lists Dolby Atmos and PCM as supported digital input formats and sampling rates up to 192 kHz. LG M7 product page · LG M7/M5 specifications manual
The M7 is not a portable Bluetooth-style speaker: it needs mains power. LG says it supports Wi-Fi lossless playback through the LG ThinQ app and Room Calibration Pro. Internet access and subscriptions may be required for some services, and available features can vary by market. In a February 2026 announcement, LG said the M5 and M7 support standalone 24-bit/96-kHz lossless music playback; that is a manufacturer-stated capability, not a guarantee that every service or track will use that format. Can you use the M7 without the H7?
Yes. The M7 can play Wi-Fi music as a standalone speaker; the H7 is not required for that use. The H7 matters when you want to build an LG Sound Suite home-theater system around the soundbar. Alternatively, certain LG TVs can act as the system hub and connect directly to M5/M7 speakers and the W7 subwoofer. The role of the TV or H7 is therefore about FlexConnect system operation, not basic standalone music playback. LG M7 product page · LG’s February 2026 update announcement

FlexConnect compatibility: check the exact TV before buying
LG’s US product page lists 2026 OLED W6, G6, C6 and B6 models, MRGB95, and specified QNED series. LG also announced a software update enabling FlexConnect on 2025 OLED G5, C5 and CS5 models. These lists are not a blanket promise for every TV in a product family or every region. Compatibility can depend on the exact model suffix and installed software, so verify both with LG for your country before purchasing speakers for a TV-led setup. A compatible H7 is another way to lead a Sound Suite system. LG US compatibility information · LG’s February 2026 update announcement
LG says the system supports up to 28 H7-led configurations and up to 22 configurations led by a supported TV, with up to 50 configurations across the full Sound Suite ecosystem. These are LG’s configuration counts, not independent performance results; what is possible depends on the components and lead device you have. LG’s February 2026 update announcement

What independent reviews say about the M7
RTINGS’ review, published September 21, 2026, frames integration with LG home cinema as a central buying consideration and notes that a compatible LG TV or H7 is needed to use all connectivity features. Its comparisons are useful if you are weighing the M7 against general-purpose smart speakers, but they are RTINGS’ listening judgments rather than results from this article’s own testing. RTINGS LG Sound Suite M7 review
Against Sonos Era 300 and Era 100
RTINGS says the Sonos Era 300 has more balanced sound and built-in Alexa, while the M7 offers a graphic EQ, Google Cast and finer sound-tuning controls. In its comparison with the smaller Era 100, RTINGS calls the Sonos more versatile and balanced, but says the larger M7 can play louder and offers more detailed EQ controls. If voice-assistant support, a less LG-specific setup or sound balance is your priority, those assessments favor considering Sonos; if adjustment controls and LG theater integration matter more, the M7 has a distinct case. Against portable speakers
Because the M7 requires mains power, it is for a room-based setup rather than listening away from an outlet. RTINGS contrasts it with battery-powered options such as the Brane X. Portability is a basic distinction here: the M7’s home-theater role does not make it a travel speaker. RTINGS LG Sound Suite M7 review
Is the full Sound Suite worth building around?
The M7’s strongest differentiator is that the same speaker can serve music on its own and join a modular FlexConnect theater. That modularity only pays off if the compatible hub and other components suit your setup. TechRadar’s March 4, 2026 review of the complete H7-plus-two-M7-and-W7 system praised its expansive Dolby Atmos presentation and flexible placement, but considered the total system price high; it also noted no HDMI passthrough and no DTS:X in the reviewed system. These observations apply to that assembled system, not to the M7 as a standalone speaker. TechRadar LG Sound Suite Immersive Suite 7 Pro review

Who should buy the LG M7?
- Consider it if you want a mains-powered Wi-Fi speaker that can also become part of a FlexConnect theater and have verified that your TV or H7 supports the setup you want.
- Look elsewhere if battery portability is essential, or if built-in voice assistance and a more general-purpose speaker ecosystem matter more than LG system integration.
- Think about the complete cost if surround expansion is the goal: the M7 is one component, and LG’s published configuration options depend on having the appropriate lead device and other speakers or subwoofer.
