OSD means On-Screen Display: the menus you use to adjust a monitor’s picture, input, and other settings. On an LG monitor, OSD Lock restricts menu adjustments to help prevent accidental changes from button or joystick presses. To turn it off, use the procedure for your monitor’s control layout: joystick models generally offer Settings → General → OSD Lock → Off, while some models with separate MENU buttons use a long press and an on-screen lock prompt.
What OSD Lock changes
OSD Lock does not mean the monitor is broken. It limits configuration or adjustment through the on-screen menus. LG describes the feature as a way to prevent settings from changing when the monitor controls are pressed inadvertently. The settings that remain available while the lock is on depend on the model.
For example, the LG 27UD68 manual says its lock disables menu configuration and adjustment except for Brightness, Contrast, Volume, Input, OSD Lock in Settings, and Exit. That exception list applies to the 27UD68, not every LG monitor. See the LG 27UD68 User Settings manual for that model’s details.

How to turn off OSD Lock
If your monitor has a joystick
- Press the joystick at the bottom center of the monitor to open the main menu.
- Move right to Settings, then select General.
- Select OSD Lock and set it to Off.
LG notes that names and available choices can vary by model. If the menu opens but some Picture or General settings cannot be changed, OSD Lock may still be enabled.

If your monitor has separate MENU buttons
On some button-controlled models, press and hold MENU for about five seconds to display an OSD lock prompt. Follow the prompt to lock or unlock the menu. The 19M38-series manual, for example, describes holding MENU, choosing Lock or Unlock with the navigation buttons, and confirming. LG’s guidance also says that holding MENU again can unlock some button-controlled models. The exact action depends on the monitor, so use the prompt displayed on your screen.

Which method should you try?

When the steps do not match your monitor
LG’s instructions cover multiple models, so illustrations, button positions, and menu names may differ. Check the model name on the monitor label or in its product information, then open the manual for that exact model. For example, the LG guidance for button-controlled menus explains that OSD is the monitor’s on-screen adjustment display and that control layouts vary. LG also provides a separate 27MU88-W manual with that model’s own OSD Lock details and exceptions.
