Verdict: The LG Gram +view 16 (16MQ70) is an unusually spacious portable monitor on paper: a 16-inch, 2560 × 1600 IPS panel in the same 16:10 shape used by many modern laptops. Its strongest case is as a second screen for a compatible USB-C laptop. The important catches are equally practical: it has no battery, requires DisplayPort Alternate Mode plus more than 7.5 W of USB Power Delivery output, and LG’s US page now lists SKU 16MQ70.ADSU1 as discontinued. Treat the specifications below as LG claims, not independent test measurements, and check a live seller’s stock, condition and warranty before buying.
What the LG Gram +view 16 is
The 16MQ70 is a USB-C portable monitor designed to draw both video and power from the connected computer. LG identifies it as a 16-inch WQXGA (2560 × 1600) IPS display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, landscape and portrait positioning, and a folio cover that doubles as a stand. The US product listing includes the folio and marks the US SKU discontinued: LG’s US 16MQ70.ADSU1 page.
That 16:10 shape is taller than the 16:9 format common on older portable screens. Paired with a 16-inch 16:10 LG gram laptop, LG describes the combined workspace as 32:10; that description applies to that specific two-screen arrangement, not to every laptop pairing.
LG’s stated specifications
The following figures come from LG’s regional product specification and 2022 business specification sheet. They are manufacturer-reported values rather than independent brightness, contrast or color tests.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

USB-C compatibility is the buying decision
A USB-C socket by itself does not guarantee that the monitor will work. LG says the host device must provide both:
Rank #2
- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode) for video over USB-C.
- USB Power Delivery output above 7.5 W (5 V/1.5 A) to power the display.
The monitor has no internal battery. It is powered by the laptop, and LG warns that a low laptop battery can cause the display to disconnect. The manufacturer’s compatibility wording is documented on the UK product page.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before you buy
- Look up your laptop’s technical specifications and confirm that the particular USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode, not merely charging or data.
- Confirm that the port can provide more than 7.5 W of USB-PD output.
- Plan for the monitor to reduce the host computer’s battery runtime because it draws power from that computer.
- Use a full-featured USB-C cable. LG’s package includes a USB-C-to-USB-C DisplayPort cable; a charge-only cable will not carry the required video signal.
If your computer cannot meet both requirements, a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter alone is not a guaranteed fix: the monitor still needs power, and the adapter and power arrangement must be designed for that use.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Ports, orientation and the folio stand
There are two USB-C ports, positioned on opposite sides. LG presents that layout as a way to choose the more convenient cable direction when the monitor is beside a laptop. The display supports landscape and portrait placement. Automatic rotation, however, requires LG OnScreen Control software rather than working solely from the panel hardware.
The included folio cover supports 105° and 120° positions. LG lists 670 g for the panel and 990 g with the cover, so the practical travel weight is closer to the latter. A user discussion on Reddit’s r/LGgram asks about alternatives for portrait support; that is evidence of an individual concern, not confirmation of a universal stand defect or endorsement of a particular replacement.

What the display specifications suggest—and what they do not
Workspace
At 2560 × 1600, the panel offers 4,096,000 pixels in a laptop-friendly 16:10 layout. The extra vertical space can suit documents, coding windows, timelines and browser pages better than a 16:9 portable display of similar width. Exact scaling and text size will depend on the operating system and the host laptop’s display settings.

DCI-P3 99% typical (95% minimum), 350 nits and 1200:1 typical contrast are useful targets for specification comparisons, but they are not a substitute for independent measurements. The available material does not establish measured color accuracy, real-world brightness, reflection handling, motion performance or battery drain, so those should be verified in a review or return period if they matter to your work.

Availability and how to assess a listing
LG’s US page labels the 16MQ70.ADSU1 discontinued. That does not prove every retailer is out of stock, but it does mean availability, condition and after-sales support can vary. Before ordering, verify all of the following on the live listing:
- The exact model number is 16MQ70 (US SKU 16MQ70.ADSU1 where applicable).
- The panel, folio cover and USB-C-to-USB-C cable are included.
- The item is new, refurbished or used as described, with no unexplained display damage.
- The seller supplies a return window and a warranty appropriate to your region.
- The final price includes shipping and any local taxes.
Who should buy it?
A good fit
- Traveling professionals and students whose laptop has a DP Alt Mode USB-C port with sufficient power output.
- Users who want a second screen with the same 16:10 proportions as a 16-inch laptop.
- People who value a thin panel and included cover more than an independent power source.
- Workflows that benefit from occasional portrait use and can install OnScreen Control for automatic rotation.
Look elsewhere if
- Your laptop’s USB-C ports lack DP Alt Mode or cannot provide the required USB-PD output.
- You need a monitor that operates without drawing from the laptop battery.
- You require independently verified color, brightness or gaming measurements before purchase.
- You need a guaranteed portrait stand solution beyond the included folio’s documented positions.
- You prefer a currently supported product with straightforward new-stock availability.
How to compare it with another portable monitor
Do not compare headline resolution alone. Check these items side by side:
- Screen size, aspect ratio and pixel density.
- Panel finish and independently measured brightness.
- Manufacturer color claims versus measured coverage and accuracy.
- Host video standard and power requirements.
- Whether the monitor has its own battery.
- Weight including the supplied stand or cover.
- Portrait support, automatic rotation and stand stability.
- Port selection, current price, condition and warranty.
No alternative model is established here well enough to name an overall winner. The right choice depends first on your laptop’s USB-C capabilities and whether battery-powered operation is acceptable.
