At the LG US catalog snapshot accessed October 7, 2026, the 48-inch LG C6 and C5 were both listed for $1,199.99. At that price, the 2026 C6 is the stronger pick on listed specifications: it has a newer processor generation and a higher advertised PC refresh ceiling. The 2025 C5 remains a sensible buy if its checkout price is meaningfully lower and its features fit your needs. LG’s specifications show a generational update, not proof of a dramatic difference in everyday picture quality.
What changed between the 48-inch C6 and C5?
The C6 is LG’s 2026 generation; the C5 is from 2025. The clearest documented differences are the listed processor generation and the advertised PC refresh capability. Both are premium OLED models with a broad set of movie and gaming features.

Model codes matter
LG’s US C6 product page and catalog show different suffixes: OLED48C6AUA and OLED48C6PUA. The C5 is listed as OLED48C5PUA. Model suffixes can vary by listing or region, so match the complete code on the television’s product page to the retailer listing before comparing specifications or buying.

Processor generation is a specification change, not a measured result
LG lists Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen3 for the C6 and Alpha 9 AI Processor Gen8 for the C5. That establishes a newer processor generation on the C6, but the cited product specifications do not quantify how much better images look on the 48-inch C6 than on the 48-inch C5.
What the refresh-rate figures mean for gaming
LG’s C5 page advertises 144Hz; its 2026 announcement describes 4K 165Hz VRR for the C6 lineup. LG’s C6 product-page footnote specifies a PC with a 165Hz graphics card, and the C5 page specifies a PC with a 144Hz graphics card. These are capability claims, not a promise that every connected device, game, or input will run at those settings. Confirm support for the exact model, input, graphics hardware, and settings you intend to use.

The higher C6 ceiling is most relevant if your PC can output compatible high-refresh 4K video and you expect to use it. For console play or a PC setup that will not approach those rates, the advertised difference may matter less than the price gap. LG’s C5 page also lists NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium, so the older model is not missing the basic premium gaming feature set.

LG lists Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Filmmaker Mode, webOS platform access, and software updates for the C5. The C6 continues the OLED evo C-series positioning with newer image processing and other 2026 features. These specifications make the C5 a full-featured premium option rather than a model to dismiss simply because it is a year older. See LG’s C5 page and C6 page for the listed features.

Available comparison coverage offers useful context but does not settle the exact 48-inch matchup. What Hi-Fi?’s broad comparison describes gains in brightness, color, processing, and sound for the C6, while favoring the C5 for value when heavily discounted; its detailed launch-price analysis focuses on 65-inch versions. RTINGS’ comparison characterizes the sets as quite similar overall with modest gains, but includes variants rather than serving as a controlled test of the exact 48-inch samples. TechRadar also published a side-by-side comparison, but the cited material does not establish it as a 48-inch-specific test.
No cited independent measurement directly compares the exact 48-inch C5 and C6. Do not assume that reported brightness, color-volume, panel-material, or HDR-performance differences for other sizes apply unchanged to these models. If one of those differences is central to your decision, look for measurements of the exact size and regional model. LG’s feature lists alone cannot establish whether built-in audio will suit your room; consider your listening distance, room, and expectations rather than treating a general comparison as a 48-inch sound test.

Which one should you buy?
Choose the C6 if the prices are close
- You want the newest generation and LG’s newer listed processor.
- You have a PC capable of using the C6’s advertised 4K 165Hz VRR ceiling and have confirmed compatibility for your model and connection.
- You are comfortable paying the same or a modest premium for the newer specification set, without expecting a guaranteed large improvement in ordinary viewing.
Choose the C5 if it is clearly cheaper
- The final price after discounts is meaningfully below the C6’s.
- Its 144Hz PC refresh claim and listed gaming features are sufficient for your setup.
- You want the established C5 feature set, including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Filmmaker Mode, and webOS, rather than paying extra for the C6 generation.
Check these details before checkout
- Compare the final local prices for both TVs, including any promotion, bundle, shipping charge, and applicable fees. The October 7, 2026 LG US catalog snapshot is not a current-price guarantee.
- Match the full model code in the retailer listing to LG’s regional product page; do not assume models with different suffixes are identical.
- If you want high-refresh PC gaming, verify that your graphics card, connection, selected input, and settings can support the refresh rate you intend to use.
- For picture-quality claims beyond LG’s specifications, seek independent measurements of the exact 48-inch models rather than extrapolating from a 65-inch review or a comparison of unspecified variants.
- Check the seller’s stock, warranty terms, and return policy, which can vary by region and retailer.
