The LG UltraGear 45GX950A-B is a 45-inch curved OLED gaming monitor with two distinct ways to play: native 5120 × 2160 at up to 165 Hz, or 2560 × 1080 at up to 330 Hz. That combination makes it compelling if you want a huge, immersive screen for detailed games and general use, but also want a faster, lower-resolution option for competitive play. Its fixed 800R curve and large footprint are not for every desk, and independent reviews differ on how impressive its HDR looks.
What the LG 45GX950A-B offers
LG markets the 45GX950A-B as a 45-inch, 21:9 5K2K WUHD OLED gaming monitor. Its native resolution is 5120 × 2160, and LG cites a pixel density of 125 pixels per inch. The screen has a fixed 800R curve; it is not the bendable 45GX990A. LG’s CES 2025 announcement describes an RGWB subpixel layout. LG’s product specifications list a manufacturer-claimed 0.03 ms pixel response time. Treat that as a specification claim, not an independent measurement.
The defining feature is Dual Mode: the monitor can run at native 5K2K resolution up to 165 Hz, or switch to 2560 × 1080 up to 330 Hz. The faster mode is a substantial resolution reduction, not 330 Hz at native 5K2K. LG advertises eight Dual-Mode configurations; the available combinations depend on the selected mode and source device.

5K2K at up to 165 Hz
At 5120 × 2160, the panel provides a tall, detailed ultrawide canvas suited to cinematic games, expansive environments, and general desktop use. The higher resolution also asks more of the graphics system than a lower-resolution gaming mode. The available review evidence does not establish expected frame rates for specific graphics cards, so check the requirements of the games and GPU you plan to use rather than assuming the monitor itself guarantees a given performance level.

2560 × 1080 at up to 330 Hz
Switching to 2560 × 1080 prioritizes refresh rate over detail. That can make sense for fast competitive play if your system can produce a high frame rate and you value the 330 Hz ceiling more than native sharpness. The image is not rendered at 5K2K in this mode, so buyers should consider whether the lower resolution looks acceptable across a 45-inch panel.
RTINGS describes the monitor as very responsive, with sharp motion handling and variable refresh rate support. Those are review findings for its tested unit, not a promise of a particular frame rate in every game or configuration. Its review applies to a unit manufactured in February 2025 and was updated October 7, 2026; it lists firmware versions 3.01, 4.23.16, and 2.04. See RTINGS’ test notes and findings.

Image quality, HDR, and everyday use
Independent reviewers praise the screen’s immersion, image quality, and smooth gaming. PCWorld highlights its 5K2K sharpness and describes HDR performance positively, while Tom’s Guide flags limited HDR brightness. Those assessments are not identical, and the available reviews do not establish one universal HDR result across content and conditions. If HDR impact is a priority, read both reviews and weigh their observations rather than treating the feature label alone as a guarantee.
Tom’s Guide also says the monitor can serve productivity use, but a 45-inch curved display occupies substantial space. The 800R curve is pronounced, which may be immersive for games but could feel imposing for desktop tasks or users who prefer a flatter screen. Measure desk width and depth, viewing distance, and any space needed for the stand before buying.

Combined with a 1.85M:1 contrast ratio, up to 99.5% (typical) DCI-P3 color, and Delta E≤2 accuracy, visuals appear vivid, precise, and true to the creator’s intent.
Text and pixel density deserve special attention if the monitor will be used for long work sessions. The 125 PPI figure is LG’s stated specification; RTINGS says the smaller LG 39GX950B-B has higher pixel density and that Dell’s U4025QW offers sharper text. Those alternatives may suit text-heavy work better.
Ports and setup considerations
LG lists DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, and USB-C with up to 90 W power delivery. PCWorld’s port listing specifies two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort 2.1 input, USB-C, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and built-in speakers. Confirm the capabilities of your computer or console and the connection you plan to use before expecting a particular resolution-and-refresh combination. Display output, cable, and source support can affect which modes are available.
