Lenovo announced the IdeaPad 5i Chromebook (16”, 7) on September 1, 2022, with an optional 120Hz display. The qualification matters: Lenovo described it as the first 16-inch Chromebook in its own portfolio—not the first Chromebook overall with a 120Hz screen. The model was also announced with a separate 60Hz display configuration.
Which Lenovo Chromebook has a 120Hz screen?
It is the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook (16”, 7), announced September 1, 2022. Lenovo’s announcement identifies a 16-inch 2.5K LCD configuration running at 120Hz. The company called the device the first 16-inch Chromebook in its portfolio; that statement does not establish that it was the first Chromebook from any manufacturer to offer a 120Hz display. Does every IdeaPad 5i Chromebook have a 120Hz display?
No. Lenovo listed two panel configurations. The 120Hz refresh rate applies to the 2.5K option, while the FHD option is 60Hz. Check the full specification for the exact unit: a product name alone does not tell you which display configuration a retailer is selling.

| Lenovo-listed display option | Resolution | Refresh rate | Brightness | Color coverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.5K LCD | 2.5K | 120Hz | 350 nits | 100% sRGB |
| FHD LCD | FHD | 60Hz | 300 nits | 45% NTSC |
These are specifications Lenovo published in 2022, not independent measurements. A higher refresh rate can make supported motion look smoother, but the difference between these configurations also includes resolution, brightness, and stated color coverage.

What other specifications did Lenovo announce?
The September 2022 announcement listed ChromeOS and processor options of Intel Core i3-1215U or Pentium 8505. Configurations were to include 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X memory and SSD or eMMC storage. Lenovo also listed an FHD camera, two 2W stereo speakers tuned by MaxxAudio, and Wi-Fi 6E.
Lenovo claimed up to 12 hours of battery life. That is the manufacturer’s stated maximum, not a guarantee of runtime under a particular workload or an independent battery-test result. The announcement does not establish the battery life a buyer should expect in everyday use.

What did 120Hz have to do with Chromebook gaming?
In an October 11, 2022 post about cloud-gaming Chromebooks, Google included Lenovo’s IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook and described the lineup as having high-resolution screens with refresh rates of 120Hz or higher. The post named GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), and Amazon Luna, and discussed optional gaming peripherals. That is historical launch positioning; it does not confirm current service availability, plan terms, or compatibility of every peripheral with this exact model.
