The 2024 Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Gen 9 pairs a vivid 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen with a thin, light chassis and capable productivity performance. Its main compromises are just as clear: three USB-C ports and no USB-A, soldered memory that must be chosen up front, and Windows on Arm compatibility limits that can affect some games and apps. It is a strong fit if screen quality and portability come first; less so if you need built-in legacy ports, upgradeable RAM, or dependable gaming compatibility.
Which Yoga Slim 7x does this review cover?
This is the original Yoga Slim 7x Gen 9, Lenovo’s 2024 Copilot+ laptop in the 14Q8X9 family—not the newer 2026 Yoga Slim 7x Gen 11. Lenovo announced the Gen 9 on May 20, 2024, with US availability planned for June. The launch announcement gave a US starting price of $1,199; that is historical launch information, not a current offer. Lenovo’s launch announcement and the Yoga Slim 7 14Q8X9 PSREF, dated March 12, 2026, identify the Gen 9 platform.
Why the OLED display is the main attraction
Lenovo specifies a 14.5-inch touch OLED panel with a 2944×1840 resolution and a maximum 90Hz refresh rate. It lists 100% coverage of both the DCI-P3 and sRGB color spaces, Dolby Vision, DisplayHDR True Black 600, and factory X-Rite calibration. Brightness is specified at 500 nits typical for SDR and up to 1,000 nits peak for HDR. These are Lenovo’s panel specifications, not measurements from this review.
TechRadar’s reviewer also singled out the screen as the laptop’s standout feature, describing an impressive viewing experience. The review notes that OLED burn-in is a consideration and that adjusting HDR calibration improved the reviewer’s experience. Those observations reflect that review unit and setup, rather than a guarantee of identical results for every user. TechRadar’s Yoga Slim 7x review covers its hands-on impressions.

Performance and Windows on Arm compatibility
The 14Q8X9 family is offered with either a 12-core Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 or a Snapdragon X Plus X1P-64-100, depending on configuration. Lenovo lists an NPU rated at up to 45 TOPS and Windows 11 Home or Pro on ARM. TechRadar tested a 12-core X Elite model with 16GB of memory and reported smooth multitasking in its productivity use.
That review’s game testing shows why the machine should not be treated as a gaming laptop. TechRadar reported crashes or poor performance in several titles, while Hades ran well, averaging 84 fps in the reviewer’s test. The figure is specific to that game, test method, and software environment; it is not a general gaming-performance promise. TechRadar said the reviewer spent two weeks with the laptop. Windows on Arm app and game behavior can differ by title and software version, so check compatibility for the applications you rely on before buying.

Memory, storage, and what you need to choose before purchase
Lenovo lists 16GB or 32GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory. Because the RAM is soldered, it is not an upgrade to plan for later; select enough for your expected workload at purchase. The PSREF lists 512GB and 1TB SSD offerings in an M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 slot. Configuration and availability can vary by market and seller.
- Choose 16GB if your typical work is browser tabs, office documents, video calls, and other moderate productivity tasks.
- Choose 32GB if you expect heavier multitasking or want more memory headroom over the laptop’s useful life.
- Choose 1TB storage if you keep larger local media or project files; otherwise, compare the price of the 512GB configuration and your external-storage needs.
Ports: USB-C only means planning for a hub
The laptop has three USB-C ports, all specified by Lenovo as USB4 at up to 40Gbps, with USB Power Delivery 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. There is no USB-A port; TechRadar also notes the absence of a headphone jack, and Lenovo’s PSREF does not list onboard Ethernet. If you use conventional USB accessories, wired headphones, wired networking, or an HDMI display, factor in a compatible USB-C hub or separate adapters. Lenovo references a USB-C 4-in-1 hub as a possible bundle accessory, but bundles vary by configuration.

Portability and battery life
Lenovo lists a starting weight of 1.28kg and a thickness of 12.9mm, which support the laptop’s travel-friendly profile. Its battery capacity is 70Wh. Lenovo’s PSREF gives estimated maximums of 16.4 hours of web browsing at 150 nits and 23.8 hours of local 1080p video playback at 150 nits. These are manufacturer figures under stated test conditions, not expected runtimes for every workload; Lenovo cautions that configuration, software, wireless use, power settings, brightness, and battery age affect actual results.
TechRadar reported unusually long runtime in some high-brightness test segments, but an immediate battery-drain issue interrupted testing and prevented further battery-life testing. That mixed, review-unit-specific account does not establish typical real-world endurance. Lenovo’s earlier description of multi-day battery life was promotional language, not a measured outcome.

Who should buy the Yoga Slim 7x Gen 9?
- Consider it if you want a high-resolution OLED touchscreen, a light and slim laptop, and strong productivity performance in the tested X Elite configuration.
- Look elsewhere if you need built-in USB-A, a headphone jack, or Ethernet, or if soldered memory conflicts with your upgrade plans.
- Check first if a specific game or specialist app is essential. TechRadar’s title-specific gaming results show that compatibility and performance should not be assumed across the Windows on Arm catalog.
- Compare configurations carefully on memory and storage, and account for a hub if your peripherals need ports the laptop does not have.
