The 2023 Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 8 is a premium 14-inch convertible that pairs a vivid OLED touchscreen with capable everyday productivity performance. Its strongest appeal is the flexibility of a 360-degree design and a choice of high-resolution OLED panels; its main buying caveats are soldered memory and battery life that varies with workload. Check the exact configuration before buying: the model family is Yoga 9 14IRP8, and display, memory, storage, and bundled accessories can differ by SKU and market.
What the Yoga 9i Gen 8 is
This review covers Lenovo’s 2023 14-inch convertible, identified in Lenovo’s specifications as the Yoga 9 14IRP8. It is distinct from the Yoga Pro 9i, the dual-screen Yoga Book 9i, and later Yoga 9i generations. Lenovo’s Yoga 9i Gen 8 product page presents the 2.8K OLED configuration, while the Yoga 9 14IRP8 PSREF documents platform options. A listing’s exact model and configuration matter more than the broad Yoga 9i name.
Display and convertible design
The 14-inch OLED touchscreen is a central reason to consider this laptop. Lenovo documents two panel options for the 14IRP8 family:

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute| Panel option | Resolution and refresh rate | Other listed details |
|---|---|---|
| OLED touchscreen | 2.8K (2880 × 1800), up to 90Hz | 400 nits, 100% DCI-P3, Dolby Vision |
| OLED touchscreen | 4K, 60Hz | Other comparable panel details: not stated in the cited PSREF summary |
These are platform options, not a promise that every retailer or region sells both. Confirm the resolution and refresh rate for the exact SKU rather than assuming that “OLED” identifies one panel. The convertible hinge supports laptop, tablet, and tent-style use, making it useful when touch interaction or a folded-back screen fits the task better than a conventional clamshell.

Performance for everyday work
Tom’s Hardware reviewed a configuration with an Intel Core i7-1360P, 16GB of DDR5 memory, and a 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD. In its May 5, 2023 review, the publication found the tested machine more than adequate for ordinary web use and productivity work. That assessment applies to its sample, not every configuration, and does not establish how the laptop performs in demanding creative workloads.
Choose memory capacity at purchase
In the Tom’s Hardware review unit, RAM is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded. Treat memory as a decision to make before checkout: select enough capacity for the applications and multitasking you expect to use over the laptop’s life. Do not count on a later memory upgrade.

Battery life: useful results, not a guarantee
Two 2023 reviews measured roughly ten hours, but used different tests. Their figures are not directly interchangeable and should not be read as guaranteed runtime.
Recommended Free Tools
| Publication and test | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Tom’s Hardware; continuous web surfing, video streaming, and graphics testing at 150 nits | 10 hours 38 minutes |
| Tom’s Guide; Wi-Fi web browsing at 150 nits | Roughly 10 hours 10 minutes |
The first measurement and its method are reported in Tom’s Hardware’s review; the second appears in Tom’s Guide’s review. Your result will depend on brightness, applications, wireless use, and workload. Lenovo lists a 75Wh integrated battery for the platform in the PSREF; that capacity alone does not predict hours of use.

Ports, pen support, and what to verify
Lenovo’s platform documentation lists Precision Pen 2 support, including a rechargeable battery, 4096 pressure levels, and tilt detection. Pen support does not mean the pen is included: bundled accessories depend on the listing and market. The launch-era Lenovo datasheet and PSREF provide platform details, but buyers should inspect the exact unit’s ports and included accessories against their needs. If the available connections do not cover your peripherals, account for a compatible hub or dock rather than assuming one is in the box.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a premium 14-inch touchscreen convertible, value OLED, and mostly need everyday productivity performance.
- Compare carefully if screen refresh rate, 4K resolution, pen inclusion, or specific ports are essential: these can vary by configuration or package.
- Look elsewhere or prioritize another configuration if you need user-upgradeable memory or require demanding creative performance that the cited review does not establish.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the listing is for the 2023 Yoga 9i Gen 8 / Yoga 9 14IRP8, not a Yoga Pro, Yoga Book, or later generation.
- Verify the display resolution and refresh rate; the family includes 2.8K 90Hz and 4K 60Hz OLED configurations.
- Choose memory capacity carefully because the reviewed unit’s RAM is soldered and not upgradeable.
- Check SSD capacity, exact processor, ports, charger, and whether a pen is actually bundled with that SKU.
- Set battery expectations using tests with a similar workload and screen brightness, not a single headline runtime.
- Compare the exact SKU’s price and condition with alternatives that meet the same convertible, display, memory, and connectivity needs.
