The Lenovo ThinkPad X9-15p Gen 1 Aura Edition is the performance-focused 2026 successor to the X9-15: a premium 15.3-inch laptop with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, a high-resolution display, and an 88 Wh battery. In Notebookcheck’s review of an X7 358H configuration, it delivered strong CPU and integrated-graphics results and lasted 18 hours 20 minutes in the publication’s controlled Wi-Fi browsing test. Its large haptic touchpad is a standout, but traditional ThinkPad users should note that the TrackPoint is gone. Memory is soldered, so choose capacity carefully.

What the X9-15p is—and which configuration was tested

Lenovo identifies this model as the ThinkPad X9-15p Gen 1 Aura Edition. It is the higher-performance 2026 model in the X9 line, distinct from the earlier ThinkPad X9-15. Lenovo’s specifications describe a 15.3-inch, 16:10, 2.8K display, with touch available on some configurations; Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processor options; up to 64 GB of LPDDR5X memory; an 88 Wh battery; and storage options up to a 2 TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 5 SSD. The listed ports include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB-A, HDMI, an SD card reader, and a combo audio jack. Lenovo PSREF and Lenovo Support provide model information, but the exact features and processor availability depend on regional SKU.

Lenovo’s surfaced configurations include the Core Ultra 5 338H and Core Ultra X7 358H/368H. Notebookcheck tested a differentially specific configuration: Core Ultra X7 358H, Intel Arc B390 integrated graphics, 32 GB LPDDR5X-9600 soldered memory, and a 1 TB SSD. The review’s results describe that unit, not every X9-15p configuration. Check the exact SKU offered in your region before buying.

How fast is it?

Notebookcheck’s review, published August 4, 2026, found the X7 358H review unit delivered strong CPU performance. Across its CPU benchmarks, the publication reported that the tested X9-15p averaged about 44% faster than its earlier X9-15 review unit. That is a comparison between those review units in Notebookcheck’s benchmark set—not a guarantee of a 44% improvement in every application or against every configuration.

Notebookcheck also found substantially higher graphics results from the X9-15p’s integrated Arc B390 than from the older X9-15’s Arc 140V: the new unit scored 76% higher in 3DMark and performed 64% better in the publication’s selected game tests. Those figures are useful for understanding the generational comparison, but they do not predict performance in every game, graphics application, or power setting. Buyers who rely on demanding workloads should compare results for the specific software they use, and should confirm which processor and graphics configuration is on sale. Notebookcheck’s full review details its test results.

Battery life: an excellent result under a defined test

Notebookcheck measured 18 hours 20 minutes of Wi-Fi web browsing on its X7 358H review unit, with the display set to 150 cd/m² and 60 Hz and Microsoft Edge used for browsing. This is a strong result for a large-screen performance laptop, but it is a lab measurement under specified settings—not a promise of a full workday count for every user. Brightness, refresh behavior, workload, wireless conditions, and configuration can all change runtime.

Display, touchpad, and keyboard tradeoffs

The 15.3-inch 2.8K, 16:10 panel gives the X9-15p a spacious, high-resolution workspace. Touch is offered only on some configurations, so check the listing rather than assuming it is included. The available specifications do not establish one universal brightness, refresh rate, or surface treatment for every SKU; verify those details for the display you plan to buy.

A large haptic touchpad, without the TrackPoint

Notebookcheck describes the review unit’s glass haptic touchpad as 13.5 × 8.5 cm, clickable across its surface, and excellent to use. That broad, buttonless surface is a prominent input feature. The tradeoff is the missing TrackPoint, a defining pointing option on many ThinkPads. Buyers who use a TrackPoint for cursor control should try the X9-15p in person or choose a model that retains it; those who prefer a large touchpad may find the change welcome.

Memory and storage: decide before purchase

Lenovo’s user guide describes the memory as soldered and the laptop as having one M.2 2280 SSD slot. Lenovo lists memory configurations up to 64 GB LPDDR5X and storage up to 2 TB. Because the memory is soldered, it is not a component to plan on upgrading later: choose enough capacity for your expected workload when ordering. The single-slot specification also makes the original SSD capacity an important purchase decision. It does not, by itself, establish how straightforward SSD replacement is for a particular unit; consult service documentation for the exact SKU before assuming a storage upgrade is user-serviceable.

Ports and connectivity

Lenovo lists three Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB-A, HDMI, an SD card reader, and a combo audio jack. Its support information also lists Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, a 10 MP camera, and six speakers. Those are manufacturer-listed features; confirm the regional configuration and exact SKU, particularly if a specific camera, wireless, display, or port detail is essential to your setup. Price and availability depend on when and where you shop

Lenovo’s January 6, 2026 CES announcement estimated a US starting price of $1,999 and Q1 2026 availability. At the time of Notebookcheck’s review, the publication reported an approximately $1,950 US starting price. These are dated, different price snapshots—not a universal current price. Actual price, stock, and configuration vary by market and retailer, so check Lenovo or a local retailer for the current listing. Lenovo’s CES announcement gives the historical launch estimate.

Who should consider the ThinkPad X9-15p?

It suits buyers who want

  • A premium, large-screen Windows laptop with a high-resolution 15.3-inch display.
  • Strong CPU performance and capable integrated graphics, as demonstrated by Notebookcheck’s X7 358H review unit.
  • Long web-browsing runtime under the tested conditions, along with an 88 Wh battery specified by Lenovo.
  • A generous haptic touchpad and the ports needed for a flexible desk setup.

Think twice if

  • You depend on the ThinkPad TrackPoint.
  • You expect to upgrade memory after purchase; Lenovo describes it as soldered.
  • You need a particular display or processor option but have not confirmed it exists in your regional SKU.
  • You need a definitive Linux compatibility answer. The available official material does not establish Fedora or broader Linux support for this model, and a reader’s compatibility question is not proof either way.

How it compares with the earlier X9-15

The X9-15p is the performance-oriented follow-up, while the earlier X9-15 remains a distinct product. Notebookcheck’s review-unit comparison favors the 15p in CPU benchmarks, 3DMark, and its selected game tests, but those percentages should be read as results from the publication’s two tested systems rather than as universal gains. When comparing them—or another premium laptop—match the processor and graphics configuration, sustained workload, battery-test method and screen settings, display options, input devices, size and ports, fixed memory, SSD capacity, warranty, regional SKU, and current price. Notebookcheck’s X9-15 versus X9-15p comparison frames the core choice as lower cost versus higher performance.
