The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga is a compact 360-degree convertible that can work as a laptop, tent, stand or tablet. It is a strong fit if portability, a ThinkPad keyboard and pen input matter more than long unplugged runtime or a particularly bright screen. In TechRadar Pro’s hands-on review of the ThinkPad X13 2-in-1 Gen 5, the reviewer measured 317 nits of display brightness and 7.25 hours of battery life—two notable trade-offs for an otherwise well-built, flexible machine.

What the X13 Yoga does well—and where it falls short

TechRadar Pro reviewer Collin Probst tested the ThinkPad X13 2-in-1 Gen 5 in 2025. The review praised its portability, build quality, keyboard, stylus and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, while identifying screen brightness and battery life as weaknesses. Its verdict was that the laptop “excels in portability and build quality” but has areas it could improve.

That makes the X13 2-in-1 most appealing to people who want one lightweight device for typing, reading, presenting and handwritten notes. It is less compelling if you regularly work outdoors in bright conditions or need a full workday away from a charger: the reviewer recorded 317 nits and 7.25 hours of battery life in the Gen 5 review. Those figures describe that review’s tested configuration and should not be treated as results for every generation or SKU.

How the convertible and pen work

A 360-degree hinge lets the X13 Yoga fold between laptop, tent, stand and tablet modes. That flexibility suits tasks such as annotating documents, sketching, presenting slides or reading with the keyboard folded away.

Pen inclusion depends on the exact configuration. Lenovo’s Gen 3 specifications list an Integrated Pen option with a built-in rechargeable battery and 4,096 pressure levels. Selected models store the pen in a chassis garage; special bid configurations may ship without it. Check the specific listing before buying, since a pen garage does not guarantee that a pen is included.

Choose the display configuration carefully

Lenovo’s official ThinkPad X13 Yoga Gen 3 specifications list three 13.3-inch IPS touch display options. All are specified at 100% sRGB, but resolution and brightness differ. These are Gen 3 specifications, not measurements from TechRadar’s Gen 5 test.

Gen 3 display option Resolution Listed brightness Color gamut
WUXGA IPS touch 1920 × 1200 300 nits 100% sRGB
WUXGA IPS touch 1920 × 1200 500 nits 100% sRGB
WQXGA IPS touch 2560 × 1600 400 nits 100% sRGB

For frequent work near windows or outdoors, favor a higher-brightness panel when the model you are considering offers one. If sharper text and workspace are more important, the 2560 × 1600 option provides the highest resolution in the cited Gen 3 range. Do not assume that a Gen 5 review’s measured 317 nits describes these Gen 3 panels—or that a model advertised simply as an X13 Yoga has the brightest option.

Ports, wireless and business features

Lenovo’s Gen 3 specification lists two Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports rated at 40 Gbps, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI supporting up to 4K at 60 Hz, and a 3.5 mm headset jack. This mix allows connection to newer USB-C accessories as well as common USB-A peripherals and external displays. The Gen 5 review also praised Thunderbolt 4, but specific ports and options should be verified against the generation and SKU being purchased.

Wi-Fi 6E (Intel AX211) and Bluetooth 5.1 are listed for Gen 3. Optional 4G WWAN, Nano-SIM support and smart-card readers are configuration-dependent; they are not guaranteed features on every X13 Yoga. Lenovo also lists TPM 2.0, a camera privacy shutter, and optional fingerprint reader and IR camera. Its Gen 3 specification states that the system passed MIL-STD-810H testing; that is a durability test qualification, not a promise that a particular laptop is damage-proof.

Portability and battery expectations

For Gen 3, Lenovo lists dimensions of 305 × 214.15 × 15.9 mm and a starting weight of 1.19 kg (2.62 lb), with weight varying by configuration. That compact footprint supports the X13’s appeal as a travel-friendly convertible. Lenovo’s Gen 3 specification also lists a 52.8 Wh battery and Rapid Charge support, but those specifications alone do not establish real-world runtime. For a concrete tested figure, TechRadar Pro reported 7.25 hours for its Gen 5 test; actual endurance can vary with configuration and use.

Which X13 Yoga should you buy?

Compare the exact generation and configuration rather than relying on the family name. The most useful decision points are:

  • Unplugged endurance: Treat the Gen 5 review’s 7.25-hour result as a warning to compare tested runtime against your own workday, not as a guaranteed figure for every model.
  • Screen: Check the panel’s resolution and brightness. The cited Gen 3 range spans 300- and 500-nit WUXGA panels and a 400-nit WQXGA panel.
  • Portability and typing: The Gen 5 reviewer praised the lightweight design and keyboard, making these strengths relevant if you carry the laptop and type frequently.
  • Convertible input and connectivity: Confirm whether the pen is included, then check for the ports and optional business hardware you actually need, including WWAN or a smart-card reader.

Before ordering, verify the generation, display, pen inclusion, wireless options and warranty with the seller. If purchasing an accessory, ensure it matches the particular generation and configuration.
