The Lenovo ThinkCentre M910z is a serviceable 23.8-inch business all-in-one built around office-class Intel hardware, a Full HD anti-glare display and a DisplayPort input/output that can let it function as a standalone monitor. It can be a sensible used-workstation choice, but “M910z” describes a platform with many processor, storage, camera, stand and touch options—not one fixed specification. Verify the exact machine type and installed parts before judging performance or price.

What the ThinkCentre M910z platform includes

Lenovo’s PSREF specification lists the M910z with Intel Celeron, Pentium and sixth- or seventh-generation Core processors. Examples include the Core i5-6500 and i7-6700 (sixth generation), plus the i5-7400, i5-7500, i5-7600 and i7-7700 (seventh generation). Integrated graphics are Intel HD 530 or HD 630, depending on the processor.

Those are platform options, not a guarantee about a particular used listing. A seller’s machine may have a much slower Celeron, a different Core chip, less memory or a hard drive instead of an SSD.

Display and ergonomics

  • 23.8-inch WVA panel, 1920×1080 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and anti-glare coating.
  • Lenovo specifies 250 nits; optional projected-capacitive touch supports 10 points. Touch is not standard on every M910z.
  • An optional 1080p camera, dual microphones and camera privacy switch may be present.
  • The basic stand tilts. The optional UltraFlex II stand adds height/lift and swivel adjustment.

Confirm touch, camera and stand features from the machine-type number, photographs and the seller’s description rather than assuming that every M910z has them.

Is the M910z good for office work?

For documents, web applications, email, video meetings and spreadsheets, an SSD-equipped Core configuration remains practical. The clearest published performance evidence is Tom’s Guide’s 2017 test of one specific configuration: Core i5-7500, 8 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 630 and a 512 GB SSD.

Test or observation Result and qualification
Everyday multitasking Streaming video and several browser tabs were smooth in Tom’s Guide’s sample; the review reported slowing beyond 15 tabs.
Geekbench 4 11,755, measured on that i5-7500/8 GB sample.
OpenOffice spreadsheet test 3 minutes 18 seconds to pair 20,000 names and addresses in the review’s test.
Display brightness 209.2 nits average in Tom’s Guide’s measurement, versus Lenovo’s 250-nit platform specification. These are a sample measurement and a manufacturer specification, not equivalent figures.

Do not apply those scores to every M910z or compare them directly with modern systems without accounting for the different processor, memory, storage and test versions. Graphics are integrated, so this is not a gaming or professional 3D workstation.

Can you use the M910z as a monitor?

Yes, when the particular unit has the DisplayPort in/out combination. Lenovo describes the capability as allowing the computer to “work as standalone monitor via DisplayPort (in / out combo)” in its platform specification. Connect an external DisplayPort video source to the M910z’s input and select the appropriate display-input function. You need a compatible source and cable; the feature does not turn every port into a universal HDMI monitor input.

Memory and storage upgrades

RAM

The platform uses DDR4 memory in two 260-pin SO-DIMM sockets and supports up to 32 GB according to Lenovo. The installed amount may be one or two modules, so inspect the current configuration before ordering. A matched replacement or addition must meet the machine’s supported DDR4 specifications.

Drives

Lenovo lists 2.5-inch SATA hard-drive or SSD options and an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD option. Of the two M.2 slots, one is allocated to WLAN and the other to SSD/Optane. The specification does not establish the exact drive dimensions or what is fitted in an individual used unit. Check the machine type and the M910z Hardware Maintenance Manual and guides before buying a replacement.

At category level, the relevant searches are “DDR4 SO-DIMM memory” and “M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.” No particular retail model should be assumed compatible without checking the unit’s maintenance documentation.

Ports and configuration differences

Typical platform connectivity includes four rear USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, Ethernet and the DisplayPort in/out combo. The side has two more USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and a headphone/microphone combo jack. Optional features include USB-C, a card reader and a serial port. Port selection varies by configuration, so photograph the rear and side panels if a specific connector matters to you.

Serviceability and maintenance

Notebookcheck’s review of a Core i5/NVMe configuration characterizes maintenance as easy, while its full search extract does not provide enough test detail to reproduce additional measurements. ServeTheHome also published a review under the exact model title and describes benchmark testing, but the available material does not expose all of its values. Use the official maintenance documentation for disassembly and part procedures rather than relying on a generic all-in-one teardown.

What to verify on a used listing

  1. Machine type and CPU: request the complete model/type number and processor model, not just “M910z.”
  2. Memory and drive: confirm installed RAM, whether storage is a 2.5-inch SATA drive or NVMe SSD, and capacity.
  3. Panel: test for dead pixels, lines, uneven backlighting, cracks and excessive dimness; verify touch operation if advertised.
  4. Stand and accessories: check for the correct stand, adjustment movement, power adapter and any missing covers or screws.
  5. Camera and microphones: confirm that optional camera hardware is present and works if video calls matter.
  6. Ports and monitor input: test USB, Ethernet and DisplayPort input/output functions you intend to use.
  7. Operating proof: ask for a photo or video showing the computer booting, the panel displaying an image and storage recognized by the operating system.
  8. Returns and warranty: favor a seller offering a return period, because panel damage and proprietary stand parts can erase the savings of a low purchase price.

How it compares with another used all-in-one

Comparison point Why it matters What to establish
CPU and RAM Determines multitasking headroom and whether historical benchmarks are relevant. Exact processor, generation and installed memory.
Storage Controls boot and application responsiveness and upgrade cost. Drive type, capacity, health and available upgrade path.
Display The screen is integral to the chassis and expensive to replace. Condition, brightness, touch status and resolution.
Ergonomics Stand options determine whether the screen can be positioned comfortably. Basic or UltraFlex II stand and adjustment range.
Ports and extras Missing options can require adapters or make a unit unsuitable. DisplayPort input/output, USB-C, card reader, serial port, camera and peripherals.
Ownership risk Legacy parts and panel repairs may be difficult. Maintenance documentation, seller returns, warranty and local parts availability.

Does the M910z represent good value?

There is no defensible universal price verdict from the specifications and historical reviews alone. The M910z is a legacy platform, and current value depends on your region, the exact CPU, SSD versus hard drive, memory, screen condition, stand, included accessories and return terms. Compare a complete, tested unit with similarly equipped used desktops or monitors rather than pricing it by the model name alone.

For a buyer who needs a tidy single-screen office machine and values serviceability or DisplayPort monitor reuse, a well-tested Core/SSD configuration can make sense. A low-cost listing with a slow processor, mechanical drive, damaged panel or missing stand may be poor value even if the headline model is the same.
