The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x ILL tested by Notebookcheck is a light, responsive 14-inch laptop with a smooth matte 120 Hz screen and long measured Wi-Fi battery life. It suits office work, multitasking and routine image editing better than demanding graphics tasks. Its 16 GB of memory cannot be expanded, its display falls short on brightness and color coverage, and the price is not reliably under $900: Notebookcheck reported Lenovo’s price as $849 while its linked Amazon listing showed $1,249.99. Those are separate retailer references, not verified current offers.
Which ThinkBook 14x configuration did Notebookcheck test?
Notebookcheck’s review, by Sebastian Bade and published September 25, 2026, covers the ThinkBook 14x ILL with an Intel Core Ultra 5 226V processor. Its findings apply to that tested configuration, not necessarily every laptop sold under the ThinkBook 14x name. The full review and test results are at Notebookcheck.
| Component | Tested specification |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core Ultra 5 226V, 8 cores and 8 threads |
| Graphics | Integrated Intel Arc Graphics 130V |
| Memory | 16 GB onboard LPDDR5X at 8,533 MT/s; not expandable |
| Storage | 512 GB Samsung NVMe SSD in M.2-2242 format |
| Display | 14-inch matte IPS, 1920 × 1200, 16:10, 120 Hz |
| Battery | 65 Wh |
The review reports room for a longer M.2-2280 SSD, but that storage option should not be confused with upgradeable RAM.
How well does it handle everyday work?
Notebookcheck found the laptop responsive in routine use and described its performance as sufficient for typical office workloads, multitasking and routine image editing. The review also reports sustained performance stability. The integrated graphics are appropriate for multimedia and less demanding games, but demanding graphics workloads are a poor match.
#1 Best Overall
- THIN, DURABLE & PORTABLE - The ThinkBook 14x, a stylish and budget-friendly alternative to the ThinkPad E14, combines portability and durability in a compact design. Weighing just 2.18 lbs, it is tested to MIL-STD-810H military-grade standards for reliable performance in demanding conditions. With up to 14 hours of battery life and Rapid Charge, it quickly powers up to support uninterrupted productivity. Perfect for commuting, business travel, and working on the go
- POWERFUL PERFORMANCE - Powered by the Intel Core Ultra 5 226V (up to 4.5 GHz max turbo, 8 cores) for fast, efficient computing, featuring a dedicated 40 TOPS NPU for AI acceleration and smooth local LLM workloads. Integrated Arc Graphics 130V graphics deliver responsive performance for creative and professional tasks. Paired with 16GB LPDDR5x 8533 MT/s RAM for seamless multitasking and a 512GB SSD for ultra-fast data access and ample storage
- IMMERSIVE VISUALS - Features a 14" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS display with 120Hz, 100% sRGB, 400-nit brightness, and anti-glare, ensuring exceptional visual clarity and viewing comfort for content creation, collaboration, and multimedia. Native dual-display support offers up to 5K@60Hz via USB-C and 4K@60Hz via HDMI 2.1 for an expanded workspace. - OPERATING SYSTEM - Pre-installed with Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, offering enterprise-grade security with BitLocker and Remote Desktop, designed to support demanding professional applications and enhanced by AI Copilot for smarter, more efficient productivity across business and creative tasks
That makes the 14x most compelling as a portable productivity machine rather than a workstation or gaming laptop. Buyers who rely on graphics-heavy creative applications should look for a system with more capable graphics hardware.
Is the 120 Hz display good for work?
The matte 1920 × 1200 screen is a practical 16:10 format, and its 120 Hz refresh rate makes motion and scrolling look smoother than on a conventional 60 Hz display. Its matte finish also helps in reflective environments. Notebookcheck’s main cautions are that brightness and color-gamut coverage do not reach higher standards. That is relevant for bright workspaces and color-critical photo or design work.

How long does the battery last?
Notebookcheck measured the 65 Wh battery in three tests. These are results from the publication’s lab conditions, not promises of the runtime an individual user will get; brightness, workload, wireless use and settings can affect real-world results.

|---|---|
| Wi-Fi web browsing | 16 hours 56 minutes |
| 1080p H.264 video playback | 21 hours 26 minutes |
| Load at maximum brightness | 2 hours 26 minutes |
The long web-browsing result is a strong point for people who work away from an outlet. The much shorter maximum-brightness load result illustrates why a lab runtime should be matched to the test conditions rather than treated as a universal estimate.

How portable is the ThinkBook 14x?
Notebookcheck lists the aluminum laptop at about 1.013 kg (2.23 lb). Its power supply adds about 184 g, so include the charger when judging the weight of the full travel setup. The combination of a 14-inch display and a light chassis is one of the review’s clearest advantages for commuting or moving between meetings.
What ports and wireless features does it have?
Notebookcheck reports USB ports, HDMI, a headphone/microphone combo jack and a docking-station port, along with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The laptop also has a fingerprint reader and an FHD infrared webcam with a privacy shutter.

The review notes the absences that may matter when planning a desk setup: there is no card reader, wired Ethernet or USB4. Check the exact port layout for the configuration on sale if a specific connector or docking arrangement is essential.
How noisy is it, and what are the main compromises?
Notebookcheck describes routine operation as very quiet, with fan noise becoming more noticeable under heavier loads. Its review also lists DPC latencies and a one-year warranty among drawbacks. The combination of non-expandable memory and the display’s brightness and color limitations deserves particular attention before purchase, since neither is solved by choosing a different workload setting.

Is it really a laptop under $900?
Notebookcheck stated a Lenovo price of $849, but its linked Amazon listing displayed $1,249.99. These are distinct retailer references in the September 25, 2026 review; it does not establish that the Amazon listing is the same exact configuration or that either figure remains current. Treat the under-$900 framing as dependent on the specific seller, configuration and live price, rather than a guaranteed deal.
Before buying, confirm the model identifier and the processor, memory and storage in the listing. In particular, make sure the listing is for the ILL / Core Ultra 5 226V version if you are using Notebookcheck’s results to assess it, and verify the current checkout price with the retailer.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x?
- A good fit: people prioritizing a light 14-inch aluminum laptop, quiet routine operation, smooth scrolling and long measured web-browsing runtime for office and general productivity work.
- Consider another option: buyers who need expandable RAM, USB4, built-in Ethernet or a card reader, or who need a brighter, wider-gamut screen for color-critical work.
- Not the right workload: demanding graphics work and games that need more than integrated graphics can provide.
