The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 is an entertainment-first Android tablet whose standout feature is its built-in JBL speaker system. In Tom’s Guide’s review, the sound was rich and powerful enough to make ordinary tablet speakers feel disappointing by comparison—a reviewer’s impression, not a controlled comparison of every tablet. The large speaker assembly and rotating kickstand make it especially appealing for streaming, music, podcasts, reading, and browsing while it is propped up. Its weight distribution and modest performance are bigger drawbacks if you want a tablet to hold for long stretches or use for demanding work.

What makes the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 different?

Its defining feature is audio hardware: the review describes a JBL 9-unit Pro system made up of four tweeters, three woofers, and two passive radiators. That is an unusually ambitious speaker setup for a tablet, and it shapes the device’s strengths as much as its physical design does.

Tom’s Guide reviewer Tony Polanco called the sound “rich, powerful” in his September 13, 2026 review. That is an evaluation based on the reviewer’s experience, not a standardized measurement proving that it outperforms every rival. The review recommends trying the Dolby Atmos sound presets and equalizer to find a presentation that suits your content and listening preferences.

How does the display and hardware perform?

Tom’s Guide lists a 12.1-inch, 2560 × 1600 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 8GB of memory, 128GB of storage, and a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor. These specifications are reported by the review; they were not separately verified against a manufacturer product page.

#1 Best Overall
Lenovo Idea Tab Plus - Lightweight Tablet - 12.1″ 2.5K IPS Touchscreen Display - 90Hz - MediaTek Dimensity 6400-8GB Memory - 128GB Storage - Integrated Arm Mali-G57 MC2 - tab Pen & Folio case
  • A VIBRANT, SLIMMER BUILD FOR SHARPER MINDS – Engage in AI-powered smart learning on the stylish Lenovo Idea Tab Plus. The svelte tablet packs a powerful punch with quad speakers, sharp graphics, and all-day battery life.
  • CARRY LIGHT, FEEL BRIGHT – Weighing just over a pound, the Idea Tab Plus is light enough to carry from morning to night and thin enough to easily slip between your notebooks. The Luna Grey color is soft, fresh, and designed to feel just right anywhere.
  • CIRCLE TO SEARCH – Stay focused and use your Lenovo Tab Pen or fingertip to circle items for instant search results or to translate other languages without switching apps. Circle to Search is powered by Google.
  • LET YOUR LEARNING CLICK – Write, organize, sketch, and calculate with four learning apps built to match your flow. Lenovo Notepad, Squid, Nebo, and MyScript Calculator help you stay clear, focused, and ready for every study session.
  • MORE TO SEE, MORE TO ENJOY – The 12.1″ 2.5K display delivers rich color and sharp detail. With TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and up to 800 nits brightness, the display keeps every frame clear in any light.

In the review’s display measurements, the Lenovo reached 597 nits in SDR and 776 nits in HDR, with adaptive brightness disabled for brightness comparisons. Its measured color coverage was broad, but the reviewer found the reproduction oversaturated and said the iPad produced more natural hues. A high coverage figure therefore does not necessarily mean the most accurate-looking colors.

How long does the battery last?

In Tom’s Guide’s Wi-Fi browsing test at 150 nits, the Lenovo lasted 16 hours at 60Hz and 13 hours 39 minutes at 120Hz. Those are results from that specific lab test, not a runtime guarantee: brightness, network conditions, apps, audio volume, and other usage can change how long a charge lasts.

How does it compare with the tested alternatives?

The figures below are Tom’s Guide’s reported results from its 2026 review and tests. They are useful for comparing those tested devices under the stated conditions, not as universal results across every configuration or workload. For the brightness comparison, adaptive brightness was disabled.

Brightness, color, and battery

Among these three devices in the review’s measurements, the Lenovo had the highest SDR and HDR brightness figures, while its color coverage was close to the OnePlus tablet’s and substantially above the iPad’s. The reviewer’s observation that Lenovo colors looked oversaturated is important if natural-looking hues matter more to you than expansive coverage. In the specified battery test, the OnePlus lasted longer than the Lenovo at 60Hz; switching the Lenovo to 120Hz reduced its measured time by 2 hours 21 minutes.

Processing and graphics

The Lenovo scored between the other two tablets on Geekbench 6 single-core and multi-core results, but its graphics score and frame rate were far below the iPad’s in the cited 3DMark test. The review’s practical caution is that the Tab Plus Gen 2 is not the pick for demanding workloads or heavy multitasking. These benchmark results indicate relative performance in those tests; they do not predict every app’s behavior.

Is it comfortable to use as a handheld tablet?

The tablet weighs 1.69 pounds, with much of its heft associated with the speaker-heavy design. The review found it awkward to hold for extended sessions. Its built-in kickstand rotates 360 degrees, supporting horizontal viewing for video as well as portrait positioning for reading. That stand makes the design more practical when the tablet can rest on a desk or table, but it does not make the device lighter in your hands.

It makes the most sense for someone who often watches video, listens to music or podcasts, reads, or browses with a tablet propped up and values strong built-in audio. It is a less natural fit if you prioritize prolonged handheld use, heavy multitasking, demanding work, or the strongest gaming performance of the three tablets measured in the review.
