Lenovo reportedly defended the Legion Go 2’s premium price by positioning it as an enthusiast handheld built with costly components, rather than a value-focused device. For buyers seeking a cheaper option, Lenovo pointed to the Legion Go S, according to Windows Central’s September 8, 2025 report.

What did Lenovo say about the Legion Go 2’s price?

Windows Central reported that an interviewer asked Lenovo whether a European starting price of €999 would be acceptable to users. Lenovo’s reported response was that the Legion Go 2 is aimed at “enthusiast” gamers who are “willing to invest in their hobbies.” Windows Central’s account says the answer came during an IFA group interview.

The article also reproduces this English rendering of Lenovo’s explanation: “The fact is, the Legion Go 2 uses high-performance processors, an OLED display, detachable controllers, and an ergonomically designed body – all of which are expensive components.” Treat that wording as a reported translation, not a verified verbatim statement: Windows Central said Microsoft Copilot translated the text and that the translation had not been fully human-verified, so context may not have carried over accurately.

Which features did Lenovo cite as costly?

The reported answer named the processor, OLED display, detachable controls, and ergonomic body. Lenovo’s US product page describes the Legion Go Gen 2 with an 8.8-inch 144Hz OLED display with VRR, detachable Legion TrueStrike controllers, and a 74Wh battery; listed processor options go up to AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not an independent measure of what each part adds to the retail price. Lenovo’s US product page currently labels the device “Available Soon.”

What is Lenovo’s cheaper alternative?

According to Windows Central, Lenovo suggested the Legion Go S for buyers seeking a more affordable option. Its reported translated statement was: “For those seeking a more affordable option, we offer the Legion Go S series.” The same translation caveat applies: the report says Microsoft Copilot rendered the English text and that a human had not fully verified it.

This recommendation does not establish how much less the Go S costs or which configuration is the best comparison. A useful buying comparison needs prices from the same market and date, as well as matching details for processor, memory and storage, display, battery, controls, operating system, and availability. The sources cited here do not provide a complete, directly comparable Go S specification and price list.

What prices and availability are confirmed?

Prices vary by region and model, so the reported €999 European starting price should not be treated as a universal price or a current US price. Lenovo Ukraine’s January 30, 2026 announcement lists Ryzen Z2 and Ryzen Z2 Extreme versions and a Ukraine starting price of UAH 49,999. That is a Ukraine-specific published price, not confirmation of current pricing in other markets. Lenovo Ukraine’s announcement

For the US, Lenovo’s product page says “Available Soon”; it does not establish a current US transaction price. Page details can change, so check the listing for the latest status.

Is the separately announced SteamOS Legion Go the same model?

No: Lenovo’s CES announcement covered a separate Legion Go model shipping with SteamOS. Lenovo projected an estimated US$1,199 starting price and expected availability in June 2026. Those were announcement estimates for that SteamOS model, not confirmed prices or availability for the Windows Legion Go 2. Because the expected date has passed, the announcement alone does not establish whether that model is now available. Lenovo StoryHub’s CES announcement

Does the reported backlash show how many buyers object?

No quantified measure is established by the cited reporting: it does not supply a survey, percentage, count of complaints, or sales result that would show the scale of public reaction. PCWorld also characterized the response as backlash, but that is qualitative reporting rather than a measured estimate. PCWorld’s report
