The Lenovo Legion Go S is an 8-inch handheld gaming PC available with SteamOS, but the name covers more than one processor family. Lenovo’s specifications list SteamOS models with either an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme or a Ryzen Z2 Go, so check the exact model and regional configuration before comparing prices or expecting particular hardware.
What is the Lenovo Legion Go S?
The Legion Go S is Lenovo’s handheld gaming PC with an 8-inch touchscreen and built-in controls. Lenovo announced a SteamOS edition in January 2025. Its launch announcement described the device as having a 16:10 WUXGA display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 55.5 Wh battery, and an announced weight of 1.61 lb (730 g). These are announcement specifications; the configuration available to you may differ by SKU and region. Lenovo’s announcement has the launch details.
Which processors are available with SteamOS?
Lenovo’s PSREF documentation identifies two SteamOS model families. The “Legion Go S” name by itself does not tell you which processor, memory or storage configuration a listing includes.

Lenovo notes that specifications can change and that availability depends on local sales channels. Use the PSREF page and the seller’s exact SKU to confirm what is actually offered where you live.

What did Lenovo say about launch price and timing?
In its January 2025 announcement, Lenovo said the SteamOS edition would be available starting in May 2025 at an expected starting price of $499.99. That is historical launch guidance—not a current price, a guaranteed price for every configuration, or proof that a particular model is in stock today. How should you compare it with a Steam Deck or another handheld?
Compare specific configurations rather than product names. A useful comparison starts with the games you actually play and the local price of each exact model.

- Processor and configuration: Identify whether the Legion Go S listing is the Z1 Extreme or Z2 Go family, then confirm memory and storage for that SKU.
- Display: Compare screen size, resolution, refresh rate, and display type. Lenovo announced an 8-inch, 16:10 WUXGA touchscreen with a 120 Hz refresh rate for the Legion Go S; verify the selected configuration’s specifications.
- Ergonomics and controls: Consider how the device feels in your hands and whether its controls suit your games. Published impressions apply to the reviewer’s test unit and conditions, not to every player or configuration.
- Battery: Lenovo announced a 55.5 Wh capacity. Capacity alone does not establish how long a charge will last; runtime depends on the game, settings, and other conditions.
- Operating system and compatibility: Confirm that the games you care about work as expected on SteamOS. Check current compatibility, especially for multiplayer games, before buying.
- Price and availability: Compare current local prices for the exact SKUs, not a past launch price or a price from another region.
Independent reviews can help with hands-on impressions, but their results depend on the specific configuration, software version, power settings, game, and test method. The available product specifications do not establish a universal frame rate, battery runtime, or complete game-compatibility list.
