Choose the Lenovo Legion Go S for an 8-inch handheld with integrated controls and a choice of SteamOS or Windows configurations. Choose the original Lenovo Legion Go if you want its larger 8.8-inch screen, detachable controllers, and built-in kickstand. The right pick depends on the exact Go S configuration, the features you will use, and current prices in your market.

Choose by screen, controls, and portability
Choose the Legion Go S for integrated controls and a lighter carry
The Go S has controls built into the device rather than detachable controllers. Lenovo’s PSREF lists the 8ARP1 configuration at approximately 740 g, making it lighter on paper than the original Go’s 1,079 g launch-announcement figure with controllers attached. Those figures come from different Lenovo documents and configurations, not a controlled side-by-side measurement.
Choose the original Legion Go for a larger screen and detachable controllers
The original Go’s 8.8-inch display offers more viewing area than the Go S’s 8-inch panel. Its detachable TrueStrike controllers and kickstand are the stronger reasons to choose it if you expect to use those features. Lenovo describes those features in its CES 2025 announcement.
Check the exact Legion Go S configuration before buying
“Legion Go S” covers multiple configurations, not one fixed hardware and software package. Lenovo lists Go S options with Windows or SteamOS, and with Ryzen Z2 Go or Ryzen Z1 Extreme processors. Identify the exact model rather than assuming a processor or operating system from the product name alone.

For the 8ARP1 model, Lenovo’s PSREF, dated May 15, 2026, specifies a Ryzen Z2 Go processor with 4 cores and 8 threads, 16 GB or 32 GB of soldered memory, and a 512 GB or 1 TB M.2 SSD offering. Its memory is not upgradeable. The document also lists a single M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot and a microSD card reader. These specifications describe 8ARP1, not every Go S listing.
- Operating system: Confirm whether the specific device runs Windows or SteamOS. Software and game compatibility can differ, so check the exact game, launcher, or application you need.
- Processor: Confirm whether the listing names Ryzen Z2 Go or Ryzen Z1 Extreme; they are different configurations.
- Memory and storage: Check the listed capacities. For the cited 8ARP1, memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded.
Understand battery figures and connections
Battery capacity and playback tests are not gaming-runtime promises
Lenovo’s 2026 PSREF lists a 55.5 Wh battery for the 8ARP1 Go S and a maximum local 1080p video playback test of 15.4 hours at 150 nits. That is a controlled video test, not an estimate of how long a demanding game will run. Lenovo says actual battery life varies with use, software, wireless features, settings, and screen brightness.

Compare current prices in your market
The Lenovo pages cited here do not establish comparable live prices for the two handhelds. Compare listings for the same country and check the Go S processor, operating system, memory, and storage alongside the original Go’s exact model. Prices and stock can vary by retailer and configuration, so an undated price or a claim that one model is always the better value is not a reliable basis for choosing.
