The Lenovo Legion Go S is worth considering if you want a large-screen handheld and the particular configuration suits your game library. Its 8-inch, 1920×1200 display with up to 120Hz variable refresh rate is a clear draw; battery life is a notable compromise. Check the processor, operating system, memory, storage and current price on the exact listing before deciding: Legion Go S is a family of different models, not one fixed configuration.
What is the Lenovo Legion Go S?
The Legion Go S is Lenovo’s 8-inch handheld gaming PC, offered in configurations with Windows 11 or SteamOS and with either an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go or Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. Those differences matter: a review of one version does not establish the performance or experience of another. Lenovo’s PSREF documentation and product listings describe different configurations, so use the model identifier on the listing to confirm what you are buying.
Lenovo lists an 8-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) 16:10 touchscreen with up to 120Hz variable refresh rate, a 55.5Wh battery, two USB4 ports with DisplayPort and Power Delivery, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and a MicroSD reader. Lenovo also lists a 65W USB-C charger in the box. Specifications may vary by model and region; confirm the exact SKU against Lenovo’s US product information and the retailer listing.
Which Legion Go S configuration should you buy?
SteamOS for a Steam-centered handheld
Choose the SteamOS version if most of your gaming is through Steam and you want an interface designed around handheld play. Reviews of SteamOS models praise the gaming-oriented experience, but describe it as less flexible than Windows for some software and services. Do not assume every game or launcher will work identically across operating systems; check compatibility for the titles and services you rely on. See the tested configurations and assessments in Tom’s Guide’s review and The Verge’s review coverage.

Windows for broader software flexibility
Windows is the more appropriate choice if you need Windows software or services beyond a Steam-focused setup. That flexibility comes with a less handheld-focused experience than SteamOS, according to the reviews cited above. Compare the operating system on the actual listing rather than assuming all Legion Go S units run the same software.
Check the processor and capacity, too
Lenovo’s Z2 Go PSREF describes a four-core, eight-thread processor and soldered memory options. Lenovo’s Z1 Extreme SteamOS listing specifies 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage. These are configuration-specific details, not universal Legion Go S specifications. Before purchase, check the processor, memory, storage and operating system together; a lower price is not a useful comparison if the configurations differ in ways that matter to you.

How good is it for handheld gaming?
The large display is the Legion Go S’s central hardware appeal. Lenovo lists a 1920×1200 resolution and refresh rates up to 120Hz with variable refresh rate, giving games a spacious screen and the option for smoother motion when a game and configuration can take advantage of it. The specifications alone do not guarantee that a particular game will run at a high frame rate; performance depends on the model and game.

Independent reviews of SteamOS configurations describe a strong handheld gaming experience and praise aspects such as the interface, display or performance. Treat those as assessments of the review units, not a guarantee for every processor, operating system or game. The same reviews identify battery life as a weakness.

How long does the Legion Go S battery last?
Battery runtime varies with the game or workload, settings and configuration, so there is no single figure that applies to every Legion Go S. Reviews characterize battery life as middling. For context, Tom’s Guide measured 1 hour 42 minutes in a continuous Wi-Fi web-surfing test on its Windows review unit, with the display set to 150 nits. That was a web-browsing test, not a gaming-runtime measurement; it should not be used as a prediction for a demanding game or a SteamOS model. The Lenovo-listed battery capacity is 55.5Wh.
Is the Legion Go S worth the price?
There is no sound value verdict without the current price and the exact configuration. Retail pricing and availability can change, and the available evidence does not establish a live price. Compare the listing you can actually buy—not an older review price—and weigh these factors:

- Worth considering: You want a large 8-inch screen, prefer a handheld-oriented SteamOS experience or specifically need the Windows configuration, and the processor and storage fit your needs.
- Think carefully: You expect long unplugged gaming sessions, or the model you are considering costs more than you can justify for its configuration.
- Compare like for like: Check operating system, processor, memory, storage and region before comparing prices or applying a review’s findings.
Useful expansion and connections
Lenovo lists a MicroSD reader for additional storage and dual USB4 ports with DisplayPort and Power Delivery for compatible monitor or dock setups. A MicroSD card may help if you need more room for games; a compatible USB-C dock may be useful for connecting to a monitor or TV. Lenovo lists a 65W USB-C charger in the box, so an extra charger is a convenience rather than a stated requirement.
