Lenovo’s second-generation Legion Go pairs an 8.8-inch OLED screen with detachable controllers and, in higher-end configurations, an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor. Lenovo first showed a prototype at CES in January 2025; it announced the production Windows model on September 5, 2025. The finished product is called Legion Go (8.8”, 2), though some retailers use Legion Go Gen 2.

Which Legion Go is this?

This is the successor to Lenovo’s original detachable-controller Legion Go, not the separate Legion Go S. The naming can be confusing: Lenovo’s production announcement calls it Legion Go (8.8”, 2), while some regional retail listings call it Legion Go Gen 2. Lenovo’s CES 2025 reveal was explicitly a prototype, with production details still being refined; the final Windows model was announced on September 5, 2025. Legion Go 2 specifications

Feature What Lenovo lists
Display 8.8-inch 16:10 OLED touchscreen, 1920 × 1200 resolution, up to 144Hz refresh rate, and 30–144Hz variable refresh rate (VRR).
Processor Up to AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme. Lenovo lists that option at 8 cores, 16 threads, and 15–30W configurable TDP. Not every configuration necessarily has the Extreme chip.
Graphics Up to AMD Radeon 890M graphics with 16 graphics cores, according to Lenovo’s production specifications.
Memory Up to 32GB LPDDR5X-8000. Lenovo’s PSREF lists 16GB or 32GB soldered memory, which cannot be upgraded after purchase.
Internal storage Up to a 2TB M.2 2242 PCIe Gen 4 SSD in Lenovo’s launch specifications. The PSREF lists one M.2 slot and supported 2242 and 2280 drive offerings; check the exact regional SKU before planning a replacement.
Expansion microSD slot; Lenovo says it supports an additional card of up to 2TB. A memory card adds capacity but should not be assumed to perform like the internal SSD.
Battery 74Wh. Lenovo described the capacity as over 50% higher than the prior generation; this is a capacity comparison, not a measured runtime claim.
Controls and ports Detachable TrueStrike controllers, FPS mode, a built-in kickstand, and USB4 ports on the top and bottom. Lenovo says the second-generation controllers are backward-compatible with the first-generation Legion Go.
Operating system The September 2025 production model was announced with Windows 11. Lenovo later announced a distinct edition that ships with SteamOS.

These figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent benchmark results. Lenovo’s PSREF for Legion Go 8ASP2, dated May 25, 2026, lists the Ryzen Z2 Extreme configuration at 2.0GHz base and up to 5.0GHz maximum frequency. It also notes that memory rated at LPDDR5X-8533 operates at LPDDR5X-8000 because of a platform limitation.

What the screen and detachable controls offer

The 1920 × 1200 OLED panel is a 16:10 display, not a 1440p screen. Its 30–144Hz VRR range allows the refresh rate to vary, while the detachable TrueStrike controllers can be used attached or removed. The kickstand supports tabletop play; Lenovo also identifies an FPS mode for controller use. These are design features, not evidence of a particular game’s performance or comfort.

Windows or SteamOS: identify the edition before buying

The Windows Legion Go (8.8”, 2) and the SteamOS edition are separate product variants. Lenovo announced the Windows model in September 2025 and announced the Legion Go, Powered by SteamOS (8.8”, 2) at CES 2026. The latter was described as shipping natively with SteamOS, with up to Ryzen Z2 Extreme, up to 32GB memory, up to 2TB SSD storage, microSD expansion, and an 8.8-inch OLED display. Check the OS and configuration on the specific listing rather than assuming all Legion Go 2 units are alike.

What to check before choosing a configuration

  • Processor: Confirm whether the listing specifies Ryzen Z2 Extreme or another processor. “Up to Ryzen Z2 Extreme” describes the highest announced option, not every SKU.
  • Memory: Choose capacity carefully. The listed memory is soldered, so the 16GB or 32GB choice cannot later be upgraded.
  • Storage: Verify the installed SSD’s capacity and format for the specific SKU before considering a replacement. Lenovo lists a single M.2 slot.
  • Operating system: Confirm whether the handheld runs Windows 11 or is the separate SteamOS edition.
  • Price and stock: Treat Lenovo’s announcement figures as dated estimates, then check local listings for current availability and final configuration.

Lenovo’s published specifications establish the hardware options, but they do not provide an independent gaming benchmark comparing processor configurations or operating systems. AMD’s handheld processor overview also places Legion Go in its Ryzen-based handheld portfolio; it is not a performance test of this model.
