Verdict: The Lenovo Legion 9i 18-inch can be worth its premium price if you need desktop-class gaming, rendering or development performance in a single portable workstation and will use its large high-refresh display. The RTX 5090 option, 24GB of VRAM, up to 192GB of memory and four SSD slots make it unusually capable for Blender, Unreal Engine, AI workloads and large game projects. However, the 3D screen is an optional SKU feature, the chassis starts at 3.5kg (7.72lb), and there is no independent benchmark for the fully equipped RTX 5090/3D configuration. Buyers who value portability, battery life or mainstream pricing should choose a smaller or lower-tier Legion instead.
What the Legion 9i 18-inch RTX 5090 is
Lenovo announced the Legion 9i (18”, 10) on 8 May 2025 as a high-end laptop for gamers and people who build games and other visual content. The platform appears in Lenovo’s PSREF as Legion 9 18IAX10 and Legion 9i Gen 10 18-inch Intel. The RTX 5090 and glasses-free 3D display are options, not universal features, so the exact SKU matters when ordering.
“Built with top-tier hardware and next-generation AI software innovations, it combines exceptional speed and intelligence — not just for immersive gaming, but also to empower game developers, AI engineers, and designers with the high performance and optional 2K 3D support they need to bring their visions to life,” Lenovo Consumer Segment general manager Jun Ouyang said.

How the glasses-free 3D screen works
Eye tracking and a lenticular layer
The optional panel uses eye tracking to determine where you are sitting. A lenticular lens array then directs separate image views toward your left and right eyes. Your brain combines those views into a depth effect without 3D glasses. Because the effect depends on viewing position, the feature is best suited to one person sitting in front of the laptop rather than a group gathered around it.
2D and 3D modes are different operating modes
| Mode | Resolution and refresh | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| 2D | 3840×2400 at 240Hz | Sharp desktop work, ordinary games, video editing and applications that do not support Lenovo’s 3D tools |
| 3D | 1920×1200 at up to 440Hz | Supported games, 3D previews and stereoscopic media where depth is more useful than maximum 2D resolution |
Switching to 3D does not turn every Windows application into a native stereoscopic application. You need compatible content or Lenovo’s conversion and viewing software, and the lower 1920×1200 3D resolution is a deliberate trade-off for the higher refresh ceiling.
Lenovo 3D Studio features
Lenovo 3D Studio includes a native 3D Media Player, playback for side-by-side and top-bottom 3D files, and an AI Media Converter that generates artificial left and right views from ordinary 2D video. It also provides Model Viewer support and integrations for selected creation applications. Lenovo said about 30 games were supported when the laptop was announced; that figure is time-sensitive, so check the current compatibility list before buying for a particular title.

RTX 5090 headroom
The RTX 5090 Laptop GPU option combines 24GB of GDDR7 memory with a 175W TGP. That gives demanding games more room for high-resolution textures, ray tracing and AI-assisted features than lower-memory configurations. The 3840×2400 240Hz 2D mode is aimed at sharp, high-refresh gaming, while the 1920×1200 mode can make it easier to reach very high frame rates, including the panel’s 440Hz ceiling.
Automatic tuning and controls
Lenovo’s AI Core and AI Engine+ can adjust performance behavior by scenario. Legion Space provides performance profiles, RGB controls and other gaming settings. These features can reduce manual tuning, although the number of settings and utilities also adds software complexity.
Large-screen experience
The 18-inch panel gives games, level editors and development tools more working area than a typical 15- or 16-inch laptop. Lenovo also includes a six-speaker system. You still get the best experience from headphones or external speakers in a noisy environment, and the large chassis is less convenient for travel.
Is it suitable for Blender, Unreal Engine and game development?
Blender and 3D rendering
The RTX 5090’s 24GB VRAM can accommodate larger scenes, textures and GPU-rendered workloads than GPUs with less memory. Up to 192GB of system RAM and four SSD slots are useful for caches, source assets and render output. These are capability advantages inferred from the published hardware; no independent benchmark for the maximum RTX 5090/3D model was published in the available material.
Unreal Engine and other creation tools
Unreal Engine benefits from fast graphics, abundant memory and fast project storage when compiling shaders, running editor previews or testing large levels. The SD card reader helps photographers and artists move media, while the color specification and 3840×2400 2D mode suit detailed texture and design work. Your exact results will vary with project size, thermals and the chosen SSD and memory configuration.

AI and visualization workloads
The RTX 5090 option is also positioned for AI engineers and visual artists. Its large VRAM pool can help keep models or high-resolution assets resident on the GPU, but application support and memory requirements determine whether the extra capacity is useful.
Which configuration should you buy?
| Priority | Configuration guidance | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum gaming and rendering performance | RTX 5090, the highest practical RAM capacity and multiple SSDs; add the 3D panel only if supported content matters | Maximizes GPU memory, power headroom and local project capacity |
| Game development and creative work | RTX 5090 with substantial RAM and at least two SSDs; choose the 2D panel if your tools are ordinary desktop applications | Memory and storage often matter more than stereoscopic output |
| 3D visualization and compatible games | Select the specific SKU that includes the glasses-free 3D panel | The 3D feature is optional and cannot be assumed from the Legion 9i name alone |
| Best value | Compare lower GPU tiers and 2D-only models against your actual software and game requirements | You avoid paying for VRAM, 3D hardware or capacity you will not use |
Before checkout, verify the GPU, display type, installed RAM, number and capacity of SSDs, keyboard layout, warranty region and power adapter. Lenovo’s product name alone does not identify all of those choices.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Upgradeability, ports and workstation practicality
Four RAM slots and four SSD slots are unusually generous for a laptop. Lenovo specifies up to 192GB of dual-channel DDR5 and up to 8TB of SSD storage, allowing a buyer to start smaller and expand later if the exact serviceable parts and regional configuration support it. Confirm the supplied drive layout before assuming every slot is empty.
Two Thunderbolt 5 ports support modern high-bandwidth peripherals and docks. HDMI 2.1 is useful for an external display, the SD reader helps with camera media, USB-A and USB-C cover legacy and current accessories, and RJ45 Ethernet provides a stable wired connection for large downloads, multiplayer or network storage.
Weight, battery and daily mobility
The 99.99Wh battery is near the common airline limit, but battery capacity does not guarantee long unplugged runtime. The RTX 5090, Core Ultra 9 275HX, 18-inch panel and high-refresh modes are power-hungry, and PC Gamer’s review of a lower RTX 5080 configuration listed expected battery life as a drawback. At 3.5kg before the charger and accessories, this is a transportable desktop replacement rather than an ultraportable.
Plan for a large bag and substantial power adapter. Lenovo’s Legion 18-inch Armored Backpack II is described as having an EVA-molded front shield, double-layer PC-compartment protection and dedicated headset, keyboard and mouse pockets; availability varies by region.
Price, availability and independent review context
Lenovo announced expected June 2025 availability with a starting price of €4,499 including VAT and expected North American availability in the fourth quarter of 2025. That was an announced starting price, not a guarantee for an RTX 5090 or 3D-equipped model. Current pricing, inventory and exact combinations vary by country, so check Lenovo’s live store for your region.
In a 25 November 2025 review, PC Gamer tested an RTX 5080, 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD configuration priced at $4,020 and gave it an 88 score. The review praised performance, build quality and the display, while criticizing confusing settings, an average SSD and expected battery life. The reviewer estimated that adding an RTX 5090, 192GB RAM, more SSD capacity and the 3D panel could bring a maximum configuration close to $5,800. That figure is a third-party estimate, not an official Lenovo price.
