A Reddit user says a Lenovo Legion 7i with an RTX 5090 came back from service with scratches, corner-edge damage and protruding plastic, and that Lenovo requested £300 to repair it. The allegation is not independently verified, and the available sources do not establish when the damage occurred or how the dispute ended.

What the owner says happened

In a Reddit post dated October 2, 2026, user Lemzy99 said they sent a Legion 7i to Lenovo because the CPU reached 102°C while gaming. The poster said the laptop came back with scratches on the top, damage at a corner edge and a piece of plastic sticking out. They also said the thermal problem remained after service. These are the owner’s claims, not independently confirmed findings. Read the Reddit post.

The owner described the machine as having an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, 64GB of memory and an RTX 5090. The reviewed sources do not independently verify the exact configuration of the customer’s laptop.

Why the repair amount is reported as £300, not $400

The Reddit post states that Lenovo wanted £300 to repair damage it classified as customer-induced. The poster also said they had asked for intake photographs but had not received images showing the damage was present when the laptop arrived. Neither the requested amount nor the account of the photographs is independently verified in the reviewed material.

  • UNOPENED RETAIL PACKAGING, sold as configured by Lenovo. Includes one year of Courier or Carry-in Lenovo Warranty. Add up to 4 years of Lenovo Premium Care Onsite Plus when you register your computer with Lenovo.

Wccftech described the requested amount as about $400. That is secondary coverage’s dollar rendering; the original post gives the amount in pounds, and no verified invoice is available in the reviewed sources. Read Wccftech’s report.

What is—and is not—established

  • The Reddit user reported visible chassis damage after the laptop was returned from service.
  • The poster said Lenovo attributed the damage to the customer and requested £300 for repair.
  • The available sources do not establish when or how the damage occurred, whether it was present at intake, or what Lenovo’s service records show.
  • No Lenovo response, independently authenticated before-and-after evidence, or final outcome of the dispute appears in the reviewed sources.

A report of damage after service does not by itself prove that the service centre caused it. Likewise, the poster’s account that intake images were not provided does not independently establish what those images show or whether they exist.

Does Lenovo accidental-damage coverage apply?

Not on the information available. Coverage depends on the customer’s own warranty terms, country, service agreement and any accidental-damage plan; those details are not established here. Lenovo’s Singapore catalogue advertises three years of Accidental Damage Protection, alongside three years of Legion Ultimate Support after a free upgrade, for a separate Legion 9 18IAX10 configuration with an RTX 5090. That listing does not show that this customer’s Legion 7i has the same coverage. View the Singapore catalogue listing.
