Lenovo ranked first in Gartner’s preliminary estimate of worldwide PC shipments for the third quarter of 2025, as the market grew 8.2% year over year. Gartner’s release does not establish that this was the market’s biggest growth in three years, so that superlative should not be treated as a verified finding.
What Gartner’s Q3 2025 estimate shows
Gartner estimated that vendors shipped 69.914 million PCs worldwide in Q3 2025, an 8.2% increase from the same quarter a year earlier. These were preliminary figures, published October 16, 2025, and Gartner said they could change. The measure counts shipments into sales channels, not verified purchases by end users. Gartner’s PC category covers desktop and laptop computers running Windows, macOS, or Chrome OS. Gartner’s Q3 release provides the estimate and methodology.

Lenovo’s 16.6% growth was faster than the other four vendors in Gartner’s top five, but that is a vendor comparison, not proof that the overall market’s 8.2% growth set a three-year high. Gartner reported that all five leading vendors increased shipments.

Why shipments increased—and why growth differed by region
Gartner attributed much of the global increase to organizations and consumers refreshing PCs ahead of Windows 10’s end of support. That is Gartner’s explanation of a market driver, not a separately quantified causal estimate. Regional conditions also varied: North American shipments rose only 1.6%. Gartner said some demand had been brought forward into the first half of 2025 amid anticipated import tariffs.

Growth in shipment estimates does not necessarily mean consumers were buying freely. Gartner Research Principal Rishi Padhi said, “Consumers continue to exhibit cautious spending behavior — delaying PC purchases and seeking promotional offers.”
Was this the biggest PC-market growth in three years?
The available Gartner Q3 2025 release confirms 8.2% year-over-year growth, but does not compare that rate with every quarter in the preceding three years or call it a three-year high. Without a consistent historical series from the same tracker and on the same basis, the headline’s superlative is unverified. It is also important not to confuse Lenovo’s 16.6% vendor growth with the whole market’s 8.2% increase.

How the picture changed after Q3 2025
Subsequent Gartner estimates show that growth continued for full-year 2025, then moderated in early 2026. These are separate periods, not evidence that the Q3 rate was a three-year record.

Gartner’s preliminary full-year 2025 estimate put the market’s annual growth at 9.1% and Lenovo’s at 17.6%. In its Q1 2026 estimate, Gartner reported 4% growth but said inventory building ahead of anticipated price increases artificially inflated it. Padhi’s full statement begins, “The 4% year-over-year PC shipment growth in the first quarter of 2026 was artificially inflated,” linking the quarter’s increase to that inventory behavior.

For Q2 2026, 9to5Mac reported IDC’s estimate of a 4.9% market contraction, with Lenovo still first by share despite a 2.1% shipment decline. This is IDC data reported secondhand, not a Gartner figure; the two trackers’ estimates should not be combined as a single uninterrupted series. 9to5Mac’s report on IDC’s Q2 figures gives that attribution.

Shipment rank and market share describe vendor scale, not the quality or suitability of an individual computer. A leading position does not show that every Lenovo model is the best choice; specifications, support, price, and the buyer’s needs still matter. The shipment figures cover a broad PC category rather than a model-by-model comparison.

Lenovo’s own FY 2025/26 Q3 results say its PC volume outpaced the market for 10 consecutive quarters and report calendar-year PC share of 24.9%. Those are company-reported claims and should not be treated as directly interchangeable with Gartner’s Q3 2025 share of 27.8% or Gartner’s full-year 2025 share of 27.2%; the measures and periods differ. Lenovo’s results announcement describes the company’s figures.
