There is no reliable family-wide winner: the right choice depends on the exact model, configuration, local price, and what you need it to do. In RTINGS’ comparison of the 2023 15-inch models, Lenovo had the edge in keyboard, touchpad, and webcam quality, while Acer offered faster H-series processor options and nearly two hours longer battery life. Those findings apply to the specific model families and year tested—not automatically to every Slim 3i or Aspire 5. Read RTINGS’ comparison.
At a glance: the 2023 comparison
| What matters | Advantage in RTINGS’ 2023 15-inch comparison | What that means for your purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard, touchpad, and webcam | Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i | Worth considering if you type often, use the touchpad, or make frequent video calls. |
| Processor options | Acer Aspire 5 | Some configurations are available with faster H-series CPUs; compare the exact processor in each listing. |
| Battery runtime | Acer Aspire 5 | RTINGS reported nearly two hours longer battery life for the Acer in its comparison. The result is specific to the configurations and test conditions. |
| Current-generation head-to-head evidence | No established winner | A 2026 Lenovo review is available, but it is not a matched test against a contemporary Aspire 5. |
RTINGS updated its comparison on April 9, 2026. Its findings are useful for understanding those 2023 models, but they do not settle which current laptop is the better buy. RTINGS’ model comparison.

Why the exact model number matters
IdeaPad Slim 3i and Aspire 5 are product families, not single configurations. Components and specifications vary by generation, market, and SKU. A product name alone does not tell you which processor, screen, memory, or ports you will get.
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i
Lenovo’s US product page presents a 15-inch IdeaPad Slim 3i Gen 10 family with multiple processor choices. Lenovo’s PSREF documentation provides specifications for particular machine types, so use the machine type or full product number to check the configuration you are considering. Acer Aspire 5
Acer’s US listings include different Aspire 5 A515-58P SKUs. Two cited examples have a 15.6-inch Full HD display, Intel Core i5-1335U, 8 GB LPDDR5 memory, and a 512 GB SSD. Those are examples, not specifications for every Aspire 5. Check the listing and product documentation for the exact SKU. Acer Aspire 5 listings.
Choose based on the work you do
Typing, navigation, and video calls
For the 2023 models RTINGS tested, the Lenovo had the more tactile keyboard, more responsive touchpad, and better webcam. If those features matter most, that comparison favors the Slim 3i—but inspect the generation and configuration you plan to buy rather than assuming the same result for every model.
Processor-heavy tasks
RTINGS notes that Aspire 5 configurations are available with faster H-series processors. That does not mean every Aspire 5 is faster than every Slim 3i: compare the specific processor names and the rest of each configuration. For demanding work, also check graphics hardware and memory limits instead of relying on the family name.
Working away from an outlet
In the 2023 comparison, RTINGS found the Acer lasted almost two hours longer than the Lenovo. Treat that as a model- and test-specific result, not a guarantee for other years or configurations. Your workload and the laptop’s display and power settings can affect real-world runtime.
Screen, memory, storage, and ports
Verify the display resolution and panel type, installed memory and whether it can be upgraded, storage capacity, and port selection on the exact SKU. Do not assume that an Aspire 5 panel is IPS or that a Slim 3i screen has a particular brightness from the family name alone.

- Record the full model or SKU. Use the retailer’s product number and, where available, the manufacturer’s machine type. Confirm that the listing and manufacturer documentation describe the same configuration.
- Match the core components. Compare the processor model, RAM capacity and upgradeability, storage, display resolution and panel type, and graphics hardware. Look for differences that affect your actual workload.
- Check the everyday details. Review port selection, keyboard layout, webcam, warranty, and return policy. If keyboard feel, video calls, or portability are priorities, give those features appropriate weight.
- Compare current prices in your market. Check the exact SKUs from the same country and retailer conditions. Sale prices and availability change, so a historical price or a listing for a different configuration is not a reliable comparison.
- Choose the trade-off that fits. Favor the Lenovo if the specific model’s input devices and webcam suit you and its price is competitive. Favor an Aspire 5 configuration if its processor or battery advantage addresses a need you have.
What the 2026 Lenovo review can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Guide reviewed a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 (2026) with an Intel Core 7 350, integrated Intel graphics, 16 GB of memory, a 512 GB SSD, and a 15.3-inch 1920×1200 120 Hz touchscreen. In its web-browsing battery test, that specific configuration ran for 10 hours 33 minutes. Tom’s Guide listed it at $1,299, with sale prices around $799–$999 at the time of writing; those are historical US review-time prices, not current quotes. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 review.
This is evidence about one Lenovo configuration, not a direct comparison with a current Aspire 5. It cannot establish that the 2026 Slim 3i is better or worse than the latest Acer.
