The first-generation Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is a strong fit for people who want a large, sharp screen for streaming, browsing, studying, and everyday Android use. Its 12.7-inch 3K display, four JBL speakers, microSD expansion, and included pen in some bundles make it appealing, but the 620g size, 400-nit brightness, software rough edges, and configuration-dependent accessories matter. Whether it is a good buy in 2026 depends on your local price and the exact bundle—not on historical launch or sale prices.

This review covers the original Idea Tab Pro with the MediaTek Dimensity 8300, not the later Idea Tab Pro Gen 2. Lenovo’s PSREF identifies the first generation by that processor and its 12.7-inch display; confirm the model generation on any listing before buying.

What is the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro?

It is a large-screen Android tablet built around media, study, and general-purpose productivity rather than a compact, easy-to-carry design. Lenovo’s technical reference lists Android 14 or later, a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor, a 12.7-inch 3K display, and four JBL speakers. TechRadar reviewer Dashiell Wood, writing after using a review unit for more than a month, praised its screen, sound, responsiveness, and gaming capability. Those are review observations, not independent testing by itechguides.com.

Lenovo’s first-generation specifications were last modified on 2024-12-17. Its published software plan says to expect Android 15 and 16 upgrades and four years of security updates; that plan does not establish the current rollout status for a particular region or device. Lenovo’s PSREF gives the display’s refresh rate as 144Hz, and the body of TechRadar’s review also describes it as 144Hz. TechRadar’s verdict summary instead says 120Hz, an inconsistency in that review page. For the manufacturer specification, 144Hz is the supported figure.

How good is the screen and sound?

Large, detailed display

The 2944 × 1840 resolution gives the 12.7-inch screen plenty of detail for video, reading, and split-screen work. Lenovo specifies a 144Hz refresh rate, which can make scrolling and supported content look smoother than on a standard-refresh display. The 96% DCI-P3 figure is Lenovo’s stated color-gamut specification; it is not a promise that every app or video uses that range.

Rank #2

The main limitation is brightness. Lenovo rates the panel at 400 nits. Wood found it suitable indoors but said it could struggle in bright sunlight. That makes the tablet better suited to a desk, classroom, or indoor viewing than to frequent outdoor use. A paper-like anti-glare screen configuration is listed, but it does not change the stated brightness rating.

Four speakers for video

Lenovo specifies four JBL 1W speakers with Dolby Atmos optimization, and Wood praised the tablet’s sound in his review. That combination supports the Idea Tab Pro’s role as a video and streaming device without making a separate speaker essential for casual viewing. Actual sound still depends on content, volume, room, and listening position.

Is the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro good for note taking?

It can be a capable large-screen note-taking tablet when paired with the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus. Lenovo lists configurations with the pen and others without it, so do not assume it comes in every box. Wood praised the pen in the configuration he tested. The tablet’s screen size is useful for handwritten notes, reading documents, or annotating pages, while its weight makes it less convenient to hold for long periods than a smaller tablet.

The Tab Pen Plus charges separately by USB-C, according to Wood; it does not charge while attached to the tablet. If handwriting is a primary use, check that the exact local SKU includes the pen—or add its separate cost to your comparison.

Does it come with a keyboard?

Not necessarily. Bundle contents vary by market and SKU: Lenovo lists packs that may include a folio case, keyboard, pen, or other accessories, as well as versions without a pen. The keyboard connects through the tablet’s three-point pogo-pin connector. Lenovo’s Keyboard Pack for Idea Tab Pro (KB566U) overview describes the accessory; check your country’s listing for compatibility, layout, stock, and whether it is included or sold separately.

Performance, games, and battery life

Everyday use and gaming

The Dimensity 8300 is paired with either 8GB or 12GB of soldered memory. Wood described general use as responsive and reported capable gaming performance on his test unit. In his testing, Call of Duty: Mobile ran smoothly above 60fps at Very High settings. He found Zenless Zone Zero smooth at 30fps on Low; at 60fps it was mostly stable but heated the tablet quickly. These results belong to his review unit and the game versions and conditions he tested, so they are not guaranteed frame rates or controlled comparisons with competing tablets.

Battery duration and charging

Lenovo lists a 10,200mAh typical battery and quotes 11 hours of YouTube streaming under its internal testing. Lenovo cautions that real battery performance varies with configuration, use, software, settings, and conditions. Separately, Wood reported that his tablet lasted a full day and then some in his own use. He also reported about two hours to charge from zero using supported 45W charging. These are different kinds of evidence: the first is a manufacturer test figure, while the latter reflects one reviewer’s use and charging experience.

What are the drawbacks?

  • Large and heavy: At about 620g, it is less comfortable to carry or hold for extended periods than a smaller tablet.
  • Outdoor visibility: The 400-nit panel can be hard to see in bright sunlight, according to Wood’s review.
  • Setup and preinstalled apps: Wood found the setup process awkward and objected to unwanted preinstalled apps. Lenovo’s PSREF does list Google and Lenovo apps as preinstalled; the judgment about them is the reviewer’s.
  • Android tablet polish: Wood felt the Android tablet experience was less seamless than iPadOS. That is an editorial assessment of his experience, not a measured ecosystem comparison.
  • Occasional app issues: He observed occasional YouTube stutters and Firefox crashes that he said he could reproduce on other devices. The review does not establish these as defects unique to the Idea Tab Pro.
  • Average cameras: The listed 8MP front and 13MP rear cameras provide basic tablet cameras, but Wood described the cameras as average.
  • Fixed internal memory and storage: Memory is soldered and internal storage is not upgradeable. The microSD slot provides an expansion path, but it does not replace a larger internal-storage configuration for every use.

Is the Idea Tab Pro still a good buy in 2026?

It remains worth considering if your priorities are a big, high-resolution screen, strong media features, pen support, and expandable storage. It is a weaker fit if you need a light tablet, bright outdoor viewing, a highly polished tablet-app experience, or a keyboard included at a predictable price.

Current prices and availability are not established here. TechRadar’s 2025-04-06 review listed launch-era starting prices of $349.99 in the US and £379.99 in the UK, and reported that its UK 128GB configuration included the Tab Pen Plus; it also mentioned a 256GB version at around £400. The same review said the US model was expected to launch in April 2025. Those are historical, regional figures, not current prices or confirmation of stock.

A separate TechRadar deal report published 2025-12-02 recorded a temporary US Lenovo price of $259.99, reduced from $389.99, and a UK Amazon offer at £249, reduced from £379.99. Those holiday promotion prices have expired as evidence of today’s value. Compare live local listings for the original generation, and include the cost of any pen or keyboard you need before deciding.

Who should buy it?

It makes sense if you want

  • A large screen for streaming, browsing, reading, or split-screen study.
  • Four built-in speakers and a high-resolution, high-refresh display.
  • A tablet that supports a pen and optional pogo-pin keyboard.
  • microSD expansion for downloaded video or other files.

Consider another tablet if you need

  • A lighter device for commuting or handheld reading.
  • Reliable readability in direct sun.
  • A keyboard and stylus guaranteed in the box without SKU checks.
  • A tablet experience whose software and app ecosystem you already prefer over Android.

What to check before buying

  1. Confirm the generation: Make sure the listing is for the first-generation Idea Tab Pro with the Dimensity 8300, not the later Idea Tab Pro Gen 2.
  2. Check the memory and storage: Choose between 8GB or 12GB soldered memory and 128GB or 256GB internal storage; use microSD support up to 1TB if it fits your file needs.
  3. Read the exact bundle contents: Verify whether the listing includes the Tab Pen Plus, keyboard pack, folio case, or only the tablet.
  4. Compare the all-in cost locally: Add any separately purchased accessories and compare current listings in your region rather than relying on old review or promotion prices.
  5. Check software support status: Lenovo’s stated plan is Android 15 and 16 upgrades plus four years of security updates; consult Lenovo support for current regional rollout details.
