Lenovo confirmed on March 28, 2023, that it was discontinuing its Android-based Legion gaming phones, citing a wider business transformation and consolidation of its gaming portfolio. That decision applied to the phone line—not Lenovo’s gaming business as a whole. A later report in April 2026 raised the possibility of a new Legion Y70, but its launch and sales markets are not confirmed by the sources available here.
What Lenovo confirmed in 2023
A Lenovo spokesperson told Android Authority that the company was “discontinuing its Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones as part of a wider business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation.” The statement was reported on March 28, 2023. Lenovo did not give a more detailed explanation of the business decision.
The spokesperson also said Lenovo remained committed to gaming “across form factors” and to focusing on where it could bring value to the global gaming community. In other words, the announcement ended the Android Legion phone line as it then existed; it did not announce the end of Lenovo gaming hardware or the Legion brand. Legion Phone Duel 2
Lenovo introduced the Legion Phone Duel 2 in an official announcement on April 8, 2021. Its design was built around playing in landscape orientation and included active twin turbo fans paired with a vapor chamber, gaming-focused controls, and two USB Type-C ports. Lenovo listed a 5,500mAh total-capacity dual battery, up to 18GB of LPDDR5 memory, and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Original Legion Phone Duel
Lenovo’s announcement for the original Legion Phone Duel described a 6.65-inch FHD AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, plus virtual controls and dual ultrasonic trigger buttons. Those figures are Lenovo’s announced specifications for that phone, not a claim that every regional version shared identical specifications. Does Lenovo still make Legion gaming phones?
The 2023 confirmation is clear, but it should not be treated as proof that the line will remain discontinued forever. On April 14, 2026, TechRadar reported that Lenovo had announced a new-generation Legion Y70 on Weibo and suggested a possible May 2026 release. The report said concrete details were unavailable. The sources available here do not establish whether the phone subsequently launched or where it can be bought, so a renewed Y70 should be treated as a reported possibility rather than a confirmed return to market. What the announcement means for Legion gaming
Lenovo’s decision was specifically about its Android-based gaming phones. Its statement said the company would continue gaming across form factors, and later official portfolio announcements include Legion gaming devices beyond phones. For anyone following the phone line, the practical distinction is between Lenovo’s 2023 discontinuation announcement and the unconfirmed status of the later Y70 report—not an assumption that all Legion gaming hardware stopped.
