On most Lenovo laptops, the battery gauge is Windows’ battery status control—not a separate Lenovo hardware switch. In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Power & battery and turn on Battery percentage if that option appears. To view battery status, select the Quick Settings area on the taskbar or press Windows key + A.
Turn on the battery percentage in Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select System > Power & battery.
- Turn on Battery percentage if the switch is available.
- Select the taskbar’s Quick Settings area—the network, sound, or battery controls—or press Windows key + A to open it. Microsoft identifies the battery status icon as a Quick Settings control on laptops and tablets. Microsoft’s taskbar guide documents both ways to open Quick Settings.
The percentage switch may not appear on every Windows build or device. Feature availability can vary, so do not assume that a missing switch means your Lenovo is defective.
Find the battery gauge if it is not visible
In current Windows 11 guidance, battery status is accessed through Quick Settings. If you are looking for a battery control among the taskbar’s system-tray icons, inspect the visible icons and overflow area, where icons can be moved between those locations. If the battery status control itself is absent, first confirm your Windows version and check for available Windows updates; Microsoft’s taskbar guide explains how taskbar controls and overflow icons work.

If you use Windows 10
Windows 10’s taskbar controls differ from Windows 11, and older instructions may refer to notification-area or system-icon settings. Use guidance that matches the Windows release actually installed on your laptop. Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; see its taskbar guidance.
Distinguish Windows battery status from Lenovo indicators
Windows battery status
The on-screen battery gauge is a Windows control. Quick Settings is the general place to check it in Windows 11, while the percentage switch, if available, is under Settings > System > Power & battery.

Physical battery light
A light on the laptop’s chassis is separate from the Windows gauge. Its location and meaning vary by model. Lenovo directs users to the device-specific Hardware Maintenance Manual for indicator meanings; consult the Lenovo battery status indicator guidance for model-specific information.

Lenovo Vantage
Some users mean a Lenovo Vantage widget or toolbar when they say “battery gauge.” Its controls are not established as one universal path across Lenovo laptops, so check the instructions for your exact model and Vantage version rather than applying an older menu path to every device.

When the battery display or charging behavior seems wrong
- The percentage switch is missing: Windows version, build, or feature availability may explain the difference. Check Windows Update and official support information for your model before trying third-party utilities.
- The laptop stops charging below 100%: It may be using Smart charging, a manufacturer-enabled feature that can intentionally limit charging to protect the battery. Microsoft says a heart on the taskbar battery icon indicates Smart charging. See Microsoft’s Smart charging guide.
- The physical light is confusing: Check the guide for your exact Lenovo model; indicator location and meaning are not uniform across the range.
- The on-screen gauge is entirely absent: Confirm the Windows version and laptop model before attempting driver changes or registry edits. The general Windows and Lenovo guidance here does not establish one universal repair procedure for every missing battery icon.
