Legato Frames, a pair of prescription-capable glasses with open-ear hearing assistance, went on sale in the United States on October 1, 2026. Prices start at $999. The company says its on-frame SpeechSense AI isolates speech from background noise and amplifies it for the wearer, while also supporting Bluetooth calls and music.
What are Legato AI hearing glasses?
Legato Frames combine conventional-looking eyewear with hearing assistance intended for adults with up to moderate hearing loss. Unlike in-ear hearing aids, the glasses use open-ear audio, so nothing sits in the ear canal. Legato says Frames are available online and through selected U.S. eye-care providers; a clinic purchase may be eligible for vision insurance. TechCrunch reported the launch and availability, while Legato’s August funding announcement also described the product and its provider channel.
How SpeechSense processes sound
Legato says microphones built into the frames capture the surrounding acoustic scene. An on-device neural network separates speech from non-speech in real time, then amplifies the isolated speech for the wearer’s hearing loss. That processing takes place on the glasses, according to Legato’s technical explainer.

The company says Frames have no cameras and do not record audio. Its privacy explanation is direct: “It doesn’t record. Not you, and not the person across the table.” This describes Legato’s stated design; it is not an independent privacy audit.

Do Legato Frames help in noisy restaurants?
SpeechSense is designed to distinguish speech from background noise, which is relevant in places such as restaurants. However, the available launch materials do not establish a specific real-world improvement in restaurant conversations or provide an independent comparative clinical outcome figure. Legato reports that HearAdvisor testing in May 2026 placed Frames among the lab’s top 10 tested devices, including over-the-counter and prescription hearing aids, and lists a 4.6/5 HearAdvisor SoundScore. Those are company-published testing claims; the full testing protocol and a peer-reviewed clinical study are not provided in the cited materials. Who is behind Legato?
Legato was founded in 2024 by Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine. TechCrunch reports that Trivedi worked on Bose Frames and later smart eyewear at EssilorLuxottica, while Romine held hearing-aid leadership roles at Bose and operations work at Audicus.
