Leeds Digital Festival’s 2026 edition ran from 21 September to 2 October, with BusinessCloud reporting more than 9,000 delegates, 220 events, 198 regional organising companies and activity across 95 venues and online. Those figures show the festival’s reach; they do not independently prove that it caused business growth, investment or jobs. “Drives economic momentum” is the festival director’s assessment, not a measured impact finding.
What is Leeds Digital Festival?
Leeds Digital Festival is an open platform for technology-related events. Rather than running every session centrally, the organiser invites individuals and organisations to host their own events and submit them for inclusion. Each event organiser sources its speakers, and attendees use that event’s own booking system. There is no single festival ticket that automatically covers every event.
The official organiser says the 2026 event-submission window ran from 8 June to 24 July and is now closed. The main festival ran from 21 September to 2 October 2026. Its sponsorship deck describes a wider year-round platform that also includes a curated Mini-Fest scheduled for 21–23 April.

BusinessCloud reported that the 11th edition welcomed more than 9,000 delegates and included 220 events organised by 198 regional companies. It also reported speakers from more than 400 organisations, with activity across 95 venues in Leeds and online. “Delegates” is the publisher’s wording; the report does not establish whether the total represents unique people or another attendance count.

BusinessCloud attributed a set of Leeds technology-sector estimates to research by The Data City, a data specialist and festival supporter. The reported figures describe the region’s broader technology economy; they are not measures of what the festival itself generated.

That page does not give dates or methods alongside the figures. Does Leeds Digital Festival boost the economy?
The available figures establish reported event activity and provide context about the regional technology sector. They do not demonstrate how much business expansion, investment, employment or career progression the festival caused. In particular, the published material reviewed does not describe an impact study that compares outcomes with what would have happened without the festival.
Festival director Deb Hetherington called the event “an active economic engine driving business expansion, attracting investment, and opening tangible career pathways”. That is her characterization of the festival’s role. Russell Brown, CEO at SCC UK, made a similar case for the festival’s role in regional investment, economic resilience and talent development; he was speaking from a sponsor-side position.

CGI announced that it became Leeds Digital’s headline sponsor in 2026 under a three-year partnership. CGI described its aims as supporting regional innovation and talent. The announcement confirms the partnership, not a measured festival-wide economic effect.
How to judge the festival’s scale over time
The organiser’s 2026 sponsorship deck gives a retrospective for 2024: 202 festival events, more than 300 participating organisations, more than 500 September Festival speakers, 58 pieces of PR coverage with a reported potential audience of 31.6 million, 4 million social-media impressions, 70 insight and news features, and 12 Spotlight episodes. These are organiser-published promotional metrics, not independently audited results. The 31.6 million figure is described as potential audience or reach, not verified readership or viewership.

The organiser’s 2025 history page says the festival began in 2016 with 56 events and later reached 240 events in recent years, with attendance rising from a few hundred to tens of thousands. It does not provide an audited attendance definition or a consistent year-by-year series. As a result, the 2026 totals cannot be used to make a like-for-like attendance comparison with 2025 from the information available.
For a meaningful comparison between editions, look for consistent definitions of attendance, event count, organising companies, speakers and venues, as well as evidence of outcomes such as jobs, investment or contracts. A causal impact claim would also need a method for distinguishing festival effects from the region’s wider economic trends.
How to take part or support a future edition
Because the festival is open-platform, participation can mean attending an individual listed event, proposing an event, speaking, or supporting the programme. Booking is handled by each event’s organiser. The official page says 2026 sponsorship has closed and directs organisations interested in supporting a future edition toward 2027 packages; sponsorship enquiries go directly to Leeds Digital.
In the organiser’s 2026 sponsorship deck, Leeds Digital describes itself as a non-profit funded entirely through sponsorship. That is the organiser’s description; the deck is not independent financial verification. A testimonial in the same deck from Anja Madhvani, Event & Community Lead at Genio, highlights the range of events, from niche technical sessions to workplace culture and diversity, and their potential to help people discover talent and connect with northern tech firms.
