Short answer: reports suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra could receive a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP6 main sensor, revised image processing and a redesigned telephoto setup. A dedicated 3x camera may be removed, potentially leaving the main camera to jump to a 5x telephoto. A Privacy Display is also rumored, but neither the camera changes nor the S27 privacy feature has been confirmed by Samsung.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra has not been officially announced. There is no verified Samsung specification sheet, launch date, price or confirmed retail listing yet, so every S27 detail below should be treated as a leak rather than a finished-product fact.
What camera upgrades are reportedly coming to the Galaxy S27 Ultra?
Late-September 2026 reports attributed to tipsters describe a major main-camera change and several processing revisions. Android Authority reported a 200MP ISOCELL HP6 sensor, described as a Galaxy-specific form of Samsung’s HPC sensor. Android Central separately reported three camera-processing changes intended to preserve detail and color in difficult, high-contrast scenes.

Samsung has not confirmed the HP6 sensor, the processing changes or the claimed image-quality goals. A higher pixel count alone does not prove better photographs; lens design, autofocus, stabilization, software tuning and final retail firmware all matter. No independent hands-on test of S27 Ultra hardware exists in the available reporting.

Reported 200MP HP6 main sensor
The rumored 200MP HP6 would represent a substantial resolution increase if it replaces the current generation’s main sensor. The reports do not establish the sensor’s physical size, pixel-binning behavior, aperture, stabilization specification or regional variation. Those details must wait for Samsung’s final announcement and product pages.
Claimed processing changes
Leak coverage says Samsung is working on processing that better retains fine detail and natural color in scenes with strong highlights and shadows. This is a development claim, not a tested result. Until reviewers photograph retail units, it is impossible to say whether the changes improve dynamic range, reduce artifacts or alter Samsung’s existing color rendering.

Could Samsung remove the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 3x telephoto?
Tom’s Guide and 9to5Google reported that Samsung may remove the dedicated 10MP 3x telephoto camera used by the Galaxy S26 Ultra. In the rumored layout, the next camera after the main sensor would be a 5x telephoto.
That would create a potential focal-length gap between the main camera and 5x optical coverage. The leak does not identify a replacement lens or explain how Samsung would handle portraits, indoor subjects or intermediate zoom levels. The gap is therefore a possible trade-off implied by the report, not a demonstrated defect.

Will the Galaxy S27 Ultra get Samsung’s Privacy Display?
A next-generation Privacy Display has been rumored, but Samsung has not confirmed it for the S27 Ultra. The only established precedent is the Galaxy S26 Ultra: Samsung officially announced a built-in Privacy Display for that model and lists it alongside the 6.9-inch display on its product information.
That S26 announcement confirms the technology exists in a shipping Samsung phone; it does not confirm the S27 panel, viewing-angle behavior, brightness, power use or software controls.

Which S27 models might receive it?
Reports conflict. Tech Advisor, citing ETNews, said the feature may be limited to Ultra and Pro models. An earlier Android Central report suggested Samsung might extend it across the entire S27 family. Samsung has confirmed neither allocation, so the S27 Ultra remains rumored rather than guaranteed.

Galaxy S27 Ultra versus S26 Ultra: what can be stated now?
The most reliable comparison separates Samsung-confirmed S26 information from unverified S27 reporting.
- Confirmed baseline: the S26 Ultra has an officially announced built-in Privacy Display and a 6.9-inch screen.
- Reported S27 hardware: a 200MP HP6 main sensor and possible removal of the dedicated 3x telephoto.
- Reported S27 software: processing intended to protect detail and color in high-contrast scenes.
- Unknowns: final camera count, replacement for the 3x module, sensor dimensions, software behavior, display implementation, price, release timing and regional configurations.
Should you wait for the Galaxy S27 Ultra?
Wait if a 200MP main camera, possible processing revisions or a built-in privacy feature are important enough to justify uncertainty. Buy an S26 Ultra only on its confirmed specifications and current availability, not on assumptions that the S27 will retain every S26 camera or display feature.
Do not treat an online “S27 Ultra” listing as proof of availability. The reporting available for this article did not verify an official Samsung listing, purchase price, launch date or accessory compatibility.
