Four leaked wallpapers may offer a hint of the visual style Google considered for Aluminium OS, but Google has not confirmed that they belong to the operating system or will ship on any laptop. Since then, Google has announced Googlebook, a laptop category built on Android technology with desktop foundations from ChromeOS; that announcement does not confirm the leaked images as Googlebook wallpapers.

What the leaked wallpapers look like

Android Authority reported on May 11, 2026, that it found four images labelled “Desktop Exclusive” while examining wallpaper assets on a Pixel phone. The report identified them as:

  • “Light Spark” and “Dark Spark,” by BUCK: a light-and-dark pair with imagery reminiscent of Gemini’s colorful spark branding.
  • “Sand Currents” and “Glacial Sediments,” by Jan Erik Waider: nature-inspired designs described as more traditional desktop wallpapers.

The names and creator credits are those reported by Android Authority, not a Google confirmation. The report said the images might be intended for Aluminium OS, while warning that Google could decide not to include them. Read the May 11 report.

These images are not the same as an earlier wallpaper leak

A separate Android Authority report on March 31, 2026, described files shared by Telegram account Mystic Leaks under the names “Adaptive wallpapers” and “Chromebook wallpapers.” That alleged set featured neon colors, abstract shapes, and light and dark themes. The March files and the four images reported in May are distinct leaks; neither report established that its images were official or would appear in a shipping product. Read the March report.

What the leaks do—and do not—tell us

A wallpaper can suggest a visual direction, but it cannot establish an operating system’s final interface, product name, launch timing, or included software. In the May report, Google had not confirmed the images’ connection to Aluminium OS. There is also no confirmation that they will appear on Googlebook devices.

Google’s public laptop plans have become clearer since the leaks, but that is separate evidence. On March 4, 2026, Google Android Ecosystem President Sameer Samat told Android Authority, “Yes, I’m super excited about later this year,” referring to an expected Aluminium OS debut. That comment expressed enthusiasm about timing; it was not a precise release date or guarantee. In the same interview, he said, “Development for Chrome OS will absolutely continue as is,” and that “Chrome OS is its own use case, and that will remain.” Read the interview.

Google has announced Googlebook, but not these wallpapers

On September 21, 2026, Google Australia announced Googlebook, a laptop category it describes as built on “the Android technology stack” with “desktop foundations from ChromeOS.” Google named ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo as makers of its initial flagship devices. The announcement is evidence of Google’s publicly stated laptop direction, not confirmation that Googlebook is simply another name for every product or leak associated with Aluminium OS.

Google says Googlebook will bring together Android phone continuity, Chrome with extensions, Play Store apps, and an isolated Linux developer environment. Those are company-described capabilities, not independently verified performance findings. Google also says some setup and features require Android 17 or above; availability of some Gemini functions depends on country, language, age, and connection. Read Google Australia’s announcement.
